Class Update on a Scorching Sunday

Friends:

Good afternoon, everyone! Is it hot or what?! I’m about to pass out. Our air conditioner has been running non-stop for about three days (except at night—love those lows in the upper 70s!). I think we need to buy a second cooling unit to keep our house under 80 degrees!

First off, let’s say a big welcome to Sarah LaSeur! Yep, that’s right. Matt’s sister joined us this morning as a guest. Great to have you with us, Sarah! Come back and see us again!

Next, let’s thank Ben and Teresa Sullivan for our snacks today. Great apple stuff, Teresa! We appreciate you guys taking care of us. Next Sunday, the Hookhams are in charge. Rumor has it that Jeff is hauling back some beef jerky from the Iowa State Fair (which is a big deal, you know, even for non-Iowans). We look forward to some Sunday morning beef jerky, Jeff!

We have lots of announcements and other business this week. THE COOKOUT AT THE BUHNER HOME IS IN TWO WEEKS! That’s right. If you have not yet signed up to bring something, click on the link below (it's also to the left). I think we have one or two slots left. Thanks to everyone who has signed up to bring something!

However, you DO NOT have to be signed up to bring something in order to come! I also hope that we can use this opportunity to invite people who may be interested in our church and class. The Null clan is excited about a big time at the Buhner home!

I also want to thank everyone who has signed up to bring snacks in the weeks ahead. The updated list is to the left of this message. We’re set through Christmas!

I also want to encourage all of you to consider signing up to teach for a one or two month stretch in the pre-school. For those of you who weren’t in church and class today, there was an insert in the bulletin that we can use to sign-up. I have some extra copies that I will bring with me to class next week. Please consider signing up to bless our kids!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Now, let’s get to our prayers and praises. There may be others traveling, but I know for sure that the Hookhams and Kayla Jacque are traveling. Please pray for safe travel for them.

Next, Melody Libby has great news that she has found a home! Please pray for Melody and her kids as they make the move.

Vince and Mary have asked us to continue praying for their friends, Cole and Iva. They are the couple who are trying to hold on to two kids they have been raising for the past several years. They have a court date this week. Please pray that God will touch this situation and, especially, the two girls that Cole and Iva have been keeping. Pray for strength for Cole and Iva during this difficult time of stress.

We also need to continue to pray for Sean and Cece Lively. Cece has been sick with an ear infection, so she needs our prayers for health. Cammie and Callie also need our continued prayers. Sean and Cece said that the girls seem to be adjusting fine, but Cammie needs to sleep a bit better. Pray for strength, comfort, and stability for these two young girls and for Sean and Cece.

Corbin, our youngest, goes in for ear tube surgery tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. Please pray that the surgery will be successful and that he will have a healthy school year.

Jill VanZee has asked that we continue to pray for Jeanie Horn. Jeanie is very sick with cancer. Please pray for comfort for her and for God’s grace for Jeanie’s family during this very hard time.

Brian and Pam Bartram should have their baby very soon! The due date was yesterday, but the baby is still not here. The Bartrams go in for a checkup on Tuesday. The baby should arrive sometime early this week. Please pray that everything will go smoothly for Brian, Pam, and their soon-to-be new baby!

Elizabeth Nemec has asked that we pray for one of her friends, Delaine (sp?). One of Delaine’s kids was killed in a car wreck this week. Please pray for God’s presence in the lives of everyone who is mourning this terrible and tragic death.

Salley T. has asked us to pray for the family of a young Methodist Children’s Home boy who was killed in a car wreck this past week. Pray for strength for everyone who is mourning his death.

Salley also would like for us to continue to pray for one of her assistants, Susan, and her husband Lance. They are going through lots of difficulties right now. They have an upcoming vacation that may help them to get some rest from the difficulties they have been facing. Please ask God to be with Susan and Lance as they try to get things settled.

We also need to continue to pray for Haley, Salley’s daughter. The good news is that Haley is doing a bit better, but we need to pray that Haley will get off to a good start with the new school year.

Jenny LaSeur has asked that we pray for her little sister. Please pray that she will make good decisions and continue on the path that she is on now. She has a good job and is doing just fine. Ask God to help Jenny’s sister to do better each day.

Let’s certainly not forget our other expectant mommies! We have two couples—the Ericksons and the VanZees—who are currently working through the adoption process. Please ask God to be with the Ericksons and the VanZees as they go through the difficult waiting process. Pray for patience, understanding, and a positive result after many months of work! We’re praying for guys, VanZees and Ericksons!

On the May front, we need to pray for Zach. He is an outer ear infection. Please ask God to be with Zach as he recovers. The good news is that all is going well at Zach’s new daycare!

We need to pray for Joann and Gabe Dominguez. They have an important court date tomorrow. Please ask God to be with the entire Dominguez family and with everyone who is making decisions that impact their family.

Last but not least, let’s pray for all of the students and teachers who are preparing for another school year. Please pray for safe travel for all of the Baylor students who are coming back to town this week.

I think that takes care of class matters for this Sunday, folks. I will be in touch later in the week about our reading material for next Sunday. In short, we will be discussing the chapter on “How Can I Handle Discouragement?”.

Have a great week, everyone. Dana and I look forward to seeing all of you next Sunday morning!

God bless,

Wes and Dana
