The Plan for Sunday

Friends:

As I mentioned in my last message, Dana and I will be in New Mexico visiting family this Sunday. Thanks to Ronnie Marroquin and Floyd Marshall, I have decided that our class will meet with the "Precepts" class. They meet right next door to us in Room 211. That room should be easy enough for folks to find. Ronnie Marroquin teaches the class, but he will be out of town as well. Floyd Marshall is Ronnie's substitute. Let's be sure to thank Ronnie and Floyd for allowing our class to join with them! I'm not sure how many people will be in town on Sunday, but, for those of you who are, I know you will enjoy the Precepts class.

As for snacks, Rod and Shannon Smith are signed up. Smiths, Ronnie mentioned that someone from their class is planning to bring snacks, so I don't think it's necessary that you bring some. But, if you'd like, you might pick up a dozen or so to bring with you.

I think that's all for now. We hope to see everyone tomorrow night at our beautiful Christmas Eve service!

A Big Week, Lots of Prayers, and Other News

Friends:

Good evening, folks. Hope you've had a good Sunday. Ours has been full of grocery shopping, Dora the Explorer, and even some gingerbread cookies (yep, that's right; Dana has been on fire as a chef today!).

Thanks to the Hookhams for bringing our donuts this morning. We appreciate it, Jeff and Bernie! It turns out we have an open spot for next Sunday. Any takers?

Let's get to this week's news and prayers:

Praise God for a great Malia baptism this morning! Let's say a big praise for how well Malia is doing. She has adjusted to our country better than I ever imagined. If we had a better lookin' pastor, she probably would have let him hold her this morning, but Steve has other virtues that we know, love, and admire. (That's a joke, Steve! Well, kinda . . .) Way to go, Vince and Mary. I think I speak for all of us when I say how proud and happy we were to see your family up there this morning.

Christina G. has several prayers that she would like us to keep in mind this week. She has a friend named Duane who has been having some troubles at school. Pray that things will turn around for him. Several members of her family, including her and her boyfriend, will be traveling this week. Pray for their safe travel and an enjoyable Christmas. Finally, Christina brought a praise that she had a great first semester at Baylor. Praise God for her hard work! Keep up the great work, Christina!

We need to continue our prayers for Shawn Buhner and his mom. Shawn and Shelley have some difficult decisions to make this week. Please ask God to give Shawn and Shelley the courage they need to get things moving in the right direction for Shawn's mom. We're praying for you guys, Shawn and Shelley. Hang in there!

Ben and Nicki Sanchez will be traveling this week to spend some time with Nicki's family. Ask God to be with them while they travel and, especially, with Ben as he meets some new members of Nicki's family!

Also on the Nicki front, Nicki asked us to pray for everyone who has been impacted by the Caylee Anthony story out of Florida. This is a very sad and tragic situation. Pray that justice will be done and that everything will be resolved soon.

I'd like for everyone to continue to pray for Steve May as he and Jennifer look for just the right position for Steve. Pray that God will give them the patience they need during this time of waiting. I believe the Mays are traveling this weekend for a Christmas get-together with family. Pray for their safe travel as well.

Ben Sullivan broke his finger last week at work. Pray that Ben will recover completely and that he will be free from pain as soon as possible.

Finally, let's be sure to pray for everyone who will be traveling this week. Pray for safety and for memorable times with family.

-----------------

Dana and I hope that all of you have a safe, enjoyable, and sacred Christmas. We leave on Christmas Day for a trip to New Mexico to see family. I've written Steve May to see if he would be willing to teach the class next Sunday. If not, beware, I'll be contacting another one of you real soon! Dana and I will be back by Wednesday the 31st, so we'll be home in time for Sunday, Jan 4th.

May the Christmas message fill your hearts with joy, your minds with hope, and your future with happiness.

Merry Christmas!

Coats, Cowboys, and Christmas

Friends:

Good evening, all! Hope you've enjoyed the weather today. Rumor has it that a cold front will be attacking us in about 30 or 45 minutes. Put the coat out for tomorrow!

In other news, congratulations to all you Cowboys fans out there. What a difference a week can make! I guess I better pull my big D hat out of the closet. Yes, I know, I know. I'm a fair weather Cowboys fan . . . . .

Let's say a big thank you to Greg and Courtney Hudson for bringing our snacks this morning. We appreciate it, Hudsons! Next weekend, the good 'ol Hookham clan is in charge. We love you guys, Hookhams, and not just when you bring donuts!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's jump to our prayers and praises for this week.

We need to pray for Teresa Sullivan and her family. Teresa's grandmother passed away last week. Teresa and her family are in Granbury this weekend for the funeral. Please pray for safe travel for the Sullivan family and for everyone in Teresa's family during this time of mourning.

Tina Leonberger has great news this week that her back surgery has been approved. Praise God for this great news! Now we need to pray that the surgery will be scheduled soon and that it will help her to feel much better.

Vince E. has asked that we pray for his nephew Dillon. Dillon has been having some troubles with addiction to a prescription drug. Please pray that Dillon will do better soon. Pray, also, for Dillon's family while they help him to deal with this challenge.

Also on the Erickson front, Malia will be baptized next week! Praise God for this exciting time in Malia's life. She has adjusted so well! Please ask that God will be with Malia, Vince, and Mary during this sacred time next Sunday morning.

I would like for everyone to pray for the Baylor students (and of course others) who will be traveling home this week after finals. Pray that everyone will travel safely.

The Mays also will be traveling next weekend. Pray for safe travel for them as well.

Last but not least, I have to say a praise for our little girl Raegan. She had her first piano recital this afternoon. Praise God that she did great! I hope you don't mind me sharing a link to the video. We're so proud or our little girl!

That's all for this Sunday, everyone. I hope you have a great week as we prepare for our Christmas Eve celebration very soon. Only ten days left!

See you next week,

Wes

Tomorrow, Santa Donation

Friends:

Good afternoon! Hope you’re having a good weekend. Jennifer May was kind enough to arrange a visit by Santa last weekend at our Christmas party. We have decided to give Santa a gift certificate so that he and his wife can go out to eat. If you would like to donate to this effort ($5 or $10 would be plenty), please bring your donation and give it to Jennifer tomorrow morning.

See you then!

Christmas Party 2008 Photos!, Prayers, and Other News

Friends:

Good evening! I know that you Cowboys fans are in a state of mourning (and half shock) this evening. My hope is that the photos below will serve as a medicine that will help you to work through your time of grief. I know it's hard to believe, but there are a few things in life that are more important than Cowboys football (I know it's hard to imagine, but it's true). But, really, did Romo and Witten even talk in the huddle before that last play?!

We have double reasons to say thank you to Steve and Jennifer May tonight! First of all, let's thank them for opening their beautiful home to us last night for our annual Christmas party. Everyone had a terrific time! Santa was a big hit! On top of that, the consensus is that the kids had a great time upstairs. Steve and Jennifer, I hope the damage wasn't too bad! We also need to thank the Mays for bringing bagels to us this morning in class. You guys get the commitment award this month! Thanks, Mays! Next week, Greg and Courtney Hudson are in charge of snacks. Thanks, Hudsons!

I want to thank everyone for coming to the Christmas Party. This was an excellent opportunity to have some fellowship time together and to prepare for the upcoming Christmas celebration. I also want to thank everyone who brought gifts for CareNet. I have a trunk full of gifts that I will deliver to CareNet tomorrow. We're about to make some new mommies and their babies very happy! God bless everyone who brought gifts. This is a great way for us to give back to our community in some small way.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

As for prayers, let's continue to pray for our expectant mommies: Shannon Smith and Elizabeth Nemec. Pray for good days and continued strength and growth for the babies.

Nicki Sanchez brought a praise this morning for her Mom. She was baptized recently! Praise God for this great news. Her name is LaDonna. Pray that God will continue to bless LaDonna for many years to come.

Bernie Hookham has asked that we pray for the firm where she works and, especially, for a new employee who begins tomorrow. Pray that he will be the right person for the job.

We need to pray for Tina Leonberger as she continues to deal with problems with her back. She should find out soon, perhaps this week, if she will be able to have surgery. Pray that everything will work out so that she can have the surgery she needs to feel better.

Also, Tina's son is graduating from college this semester. Great news, Tina! He also will be getting married soon. Lots of changes going on with him. Please pray that God will be with Tina, her son, and her soon-to-be daughter-in-law during these times of change and transition.

We need to continue our prayers for Steve May as he looks at job possibilities. Pray that Steve will have closure soon and that God will lead him to the right job.

Christina G.'s Aunt and Uncle have been visiting and will be traveling home this week. Pray for their safe travel. Also for Christina, a former co-worker of hers died recently from heart complications. Please pray for the family. Christina also has a friend whose high school basketball coach died recently. Pray for Christina's friend and the family that is mourning this loss.

We need to keep up our prayers for Ben Sullivan while he is away working on various drilling rigs. Pray that God will keep Ben safe and bring him home safely to Teresa and the kids soon.

Several members of our class had good things to say about the recent Angel Tree party. Let's say a praise that God seems to have done some great work through this ministry.

Last but not least, I want to say thanks to God for a great time last night with all of our friends. This was certainly a Christmas Party that we will remember for a very long time (the pictures will help!)

---------------

For next week's class, we will continue looking at Excellence by focusing on the virtue of "obedience" found in the book of Jeremiah. If you want to read ahead, take a look at Jeremiah chapter 35 (yes, the whole thing; it's short).

I think that's all for this evening. Dana and I look forward to seeing everyone next Sunday morning. Have a great week, folks, and I hope you enjoy the photos below!
