Christmas Greetings, News, and Prayers . . .

Friends:

Good evening, all. The Baylor Bears won this afternoon. The Cowboys won last night. Christmas week has arrived. No school for a while. Days off later in the week for non-school employed people. Things are lookin' pretty good this week, I think!

I hope all of you are having a good Sunday. We have lots going on, as usual, so let's get to it.

FISH DISH
Would anyone like to volunteer to teach the Fish Dish Kids Sunday School class for the month of January? Your commitment would only be two Sundays during the month. I believe the two Sundays would be January 17th and 24th, but I may be off by one Sunday. The person to talk with would be Nancy Walker. If you are interested in doing this, please let me know with an email. We already have February, March, and April 2010 covered. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered already! For those of you who don't know, our class has "adopted" the Fish Dish class, which means different members of our class take turns teaching the kids.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES
We have lots of prayers this week. For starters, let's pray for everyone who is traveling. Here are the travelers I know about. The VanZees are headed to Iowa, the Hookhams are headed to Iowa, the Hudsons are going somewhere in Texas, the Mays are going somewhere in Texas, the Escobar-Jensens are headed to College Station, and us Nulls are headed to New Mexico. Pray for safe travel and an enjoyable time visiting with family for everyone.

Let's keep praying for the two expectant Mommies we know about. Beth Ramsdell and Erica Sullivan. Pray for comfortable days and healthy growth for the babies.

We need to keep praying for little Reese as she goes back and forth to Temple for chemo treatments. Pray for strength for Reese and safe driving for Amy and Brian.

We have several prayers and praises from/for Vince and Mary this week. They will celebrate six years together on Wednesday! Congratulations, Vince and Mary. I hope you guys enjoy your special day. We also need to pray for them as Vince readies the camper to make his move to South Texas. Pray that all of the preparations will go well and the transition will be smooth. Pray, also, for Mary and Malia while Vince is out of town.

Also from Vince and Mary, Vince's parents will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary this week. Yep, that's right. 62 years. How about that! Congratulations to Vince's parents. Let's pray for a special day for them.

Mary also would like for us to pray for her friend, Kelly. Kelly's son, Zachary, recently had a kidney transplant. The surgery went well, but we need to pray that the kidney will begin to function exactly as it should.

Last but not least, Vince would like for us to keep praying for the Menekers. The boys they have been raising for the past four years will be transitioning back to their biological parents soon. Pray that God will be with these boys during this difficult time of change. Pray for peace and understanding for the Menekers.

Jennifer May will take the GRE tomorrow. Pray that everything will go well for her. You will do great, Jennifer! It will be over soon enough! Just think, you can celebrate Christmas after having it done.

Dana would like for us to pray for Zach, a student at Midway High. Zach's brother is the little boy from South Bosque Elementary who who died from complications of swine flu last week. Please pray for comfort for Zach and his entire family during this terribly difficult and tragic time.

We need to keep praying for Shannon Smith and the entire Smith family. Pray for peace and healing as the days pass along.

Kirsten E. has asked that we pray for her nephew, Jack. He is battling Leukemia. He has to remain in isolation for two more years while he goes through his protocol of taking chemo and trying to remain germ free. Pray for understanding for Jack and for successful chemotherapy treatments.

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her Aunt and Uncle as they travel this week.

I think that covers our news, prayers, and praises for this week.

CLASS NEXT WEEK

As I mentioned, us Nulls will be in New Mexico next week. We will be back on Saturday, December 31st. In lieu of finding someone else to teach the class, I have asked Kathy Brooks if it is okay if any remaining members of our class meet with them next Sunday in Room 205 (just next door). I have yet to hear back from Kathy (just emailed a few minutes ago!), but I'm sure this plan will be okay. I don't think, however, that many people from our group will be left in town . . . .

May all of you have a blessed Christmas and a safe New Year's Eve. I look forward to seeing many of you on Christmas Eve. For those of you who are in town, I hope you can be there. I think I'm speaking the truth when I say that we have the most beautiful Christmas Eve service in the country.

May God bless all of you during this special time of year!

Prayers and News on a Heat Wave Sunday . . . .

Friends:

Good evening, all! How about this 70 degree weather?! Fine by me, except for the fact that it reminds me I need to rake the leaves!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend. We only have one more full weekend before Christmas! My apologies if I just added to anyone's stress level . . . .

Let's start off by welcoming Danny Ramsey to our class. He visited this morning. His wife Pam was home sick. We enjoyed having you, Danny! I hope you will come back and visit us again soon, next time with Pam.

Next, let's thank Ben and Teresa Sullivan for bringing our donuts today. We appreciate it, guys! Next week, us Nulls will take care of the snacks.

NEWS AND PRAYERS

As usual, we have lots of news and prayers. First off, Vince E. brought great news this morning that he has accepted a sports director position at the KRGV station down in the Rio Grande Valley. Congratulations, Vince! We are very happy for you guys. KRGV is an ABC affiliated station that has won many awards. Vince will be replacing someone who has been sports director there for 35 years. They are very lucky to have you, Vince! Let's pray for a smooth transition for them. Mary plans to stay here in town for a while, so we will continue to see her each week as well as Vince about once per month. We will be praying for you guys during the transition, Vince and Mary!

On that note, Vince would like us to keep praying for everyone out there who is still searching for employment. He knows how difficult the time of searching and stress can be.

Also from Vince, he would like for us to pray for one of his friends, Michelle. Michelle's mother, not a smoker, is fighting lung cancer. Pray for good medicine and comfort for Michelle's mom.

We have two expectant Mommies to keep in our prayers. Beth Ramsdell had her shower this afternoon. As far as I know, everything went quite well. Let's keep praying for good health for Beth and little Levi-to-be.

We also need to pray for Barry and Erica Sullivan. Many of you remember them as part of our class before they moved to Gainesville. Erica is about three months along with her pregnancy. We need to pray for her since she has had some difficulties. Pray for easy days and strength for Erica. She does have some back problems, so let's pray for as little pain as possible. Since we still consider Barry and Erica as part of our class, this news extends our pregnancy period well into next summer! Thanks for coming through for us, Barry and Erica. This news puts us at almost 8 years of straight pregnancy for at least one person in our class. Quite an accomplishment, I think! We have a slight reprieve, but somebody else needs to come through by June . . .

We also, of course, need to keep praying for little Reese Nicholson. She goes back in for another round of chemo treatments in the morning. Pray for safety for Amy on the drive. Pray also for the treatments to be as smooth as possible. One week at a time, Brian and Amy!

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her supervisor at work, Tom Charlton. He goes in for a cancer check-up tomorrow. Pray for a safe trip and for good news as far as Tom's health is concerned.

Ben Sullivan informed us today that it looks as though he will be accepting a promotion this week. He has an opportunity to move off the drilling rigs and begin to work as an electrician. Let's pray for Ben as he makes this important shift in his life, one that should make his work a bit more safe.

Last but not least, Ben May had a great weekend. He made all-region band with his trombone skills! It sounds as though high-quality trombone playing runs in the May family. Congratulations, Ben! Let's pray that Ben will continue to develop all of his talents, which look to be quite broad (basketball, football, trombone, school, etc. . . . .must take after his Mother).

----------

I think that covers matters for this Sunday, everyone. Let's all pray that we will find a way to slow down and appreciate the meaning of this sacred season.

Have a great week, folks. See you next Sunday morning!

Remember Barry and Erica . . . . .

Friends:

Guess what?! Just got an update from Barry and Erica Sullivan. Remember them?! Barry's the guy we lost to Gainesville as city manager when we couldn't keep him in Hewitt.

Well, we have good news and a prayer request for them. Erica is about 14 weeks pregnant. How about that?! Great news of course. She has, however, been having some difficulties. Barry has asked that we keep them, and especially Erica and the baby of course, in our prayers.

Thanks for letting us know, Barry. We'll be praying for you guys. We'll want to see that baby!

December News and Prayers . . . .

Friends:

Well, there is lots to share this week! First off, thanks to the Hookhams for bringing our donuts today. Next week, Ben and Teresa are signed up. Thanks, Hookhams and Sullivans!

Let's go ahead and get to our prayers and praises.

Jill VanZee brought great news about her friend Dr. Mundy. Her little girl Rylie is now home from the hospital and doing well. Let's pray for her continued recovery.

Vince E. has an update on the Menekers. After many months of praying, it turns out that their two little boys will be returning to their biological parents. This is a very difficult situation and devastating news for Vince's friends Cole and Iva. Please pray for the boys as they transition to a different home. Pray for Cole and Iva as they deal with lots of pain. Pray, also, for the biological parents who will be looking after the boys again soon.

Let's keep praying for Shannon Smith and her family as they deal with the loss of Shannon's brother. We are praying for you, Shannon.

Beth Ramsdell has just a couple of months left before little Levi arrives. Please pray for Beth and for Levi as the big day gets closer. Matt seems to be doing fine, too. : )

I believe Reese Nicholson has had a good week. She began a new medication on Monday along with the chemotherapy treatment. I think it helped her to have a better week. Let's keep praying that Reese will have easier weeks of treatments. Pray for safe travel for Amy and Reese as they drive back and forth.

Jennifer Fadal would like for us to keep praying for little Easton. The good news is that he is sleeping better now that he has begun to take Prilosec. Pray for continued good days for Easton.

Bernie Hookham has asked that we keep praying for Linda Bohannon, her assistant at work. Linda is undergoing radiation treatments for breast cancer. She is doing okay, but continues to need our prayers.

Christina G. has a friend she would like for us to pray for. He's having a difficult time right now and needs some support. Pray that Christina will be able to provide it to him. Christina also would like for us to pray for her as she finishes out the semester. Her Mom also has a birthday party on Wednesday. Pray for a good day for her.

Steve May brought a praise today that everything is in good shape with his job. Pray for the others who weren't so fortunate and for Steve as he continues his work. Pray for no more rounds of layoffs!

We also need to pray for Steve as he begins work to coach the China Spring High School Challenge team. These are the kids who compete in the academic competition on Saturday mornings on TV. Pray that Steve will bless these kids!

Last but not least on the May front, Benjamin's basketball team had a great tournament this weekend. They won the whole thing! Congratulations to them.

Finally, let's pray for a great end of the semester for all of the area schools and universities. Pray for safe travel for the students who will be headed home soon.

------

I think that covers matters for this Sunday. May we all slow down long enough to enjoy this sacred and blessed time of year.

See you next Sunday!

26 Shopping Days . . . . and Class News

Can you believe that?! 26 days until Christmas! Yep, it's here . . .

I hope everyone has had a good weekend. How about we start off by saying a big thank you to Kirsten E. for baking us some delicious snacks this morning! Great stuff, Kirsten. Next week, the faithful Hookham clan is in charge. Thanks, Hookhams!

We have a number of prayers and praises to get to, so let's get at it.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's keep praying for little Levi Ramsdell and his Mommy Beth. They are both doing fine, but let's keep praying for healthy days and a full term pregnancy. We're praying for you, Beth!

Let's not let up on our prayers for little Reese. It sure was great to see the Nicholson clan in church this morning! Reese looked great running down for children's time. She goes back for another round of chemo treatments tomorrow. She was quite sick last week following her Monday dose. Please pray for a safe drive tomorrow morning and for Reese to be in as little discomfort as possible.

We need to keep praying for Shannon Smith and her Mom as they continue to mourn the loss of Shannon's brother. We are praying for you, Shannon!

Christina G.'s surgery just before Thanksgiving went well. Pray for her continued recovery. Christina also asked us to pray for his brother as he finishes up the semester at Baylor.

The Mays had a great trip to Disney World and related destinations. Let's say a big praise for that. Steve also asked us to pray for him as his company goes through a period of layoffs. Pray for nothing but good news for Steve.

Also on the May front, Jennifer has a praise that her first semester of graduate school has gone well. She is preparing to take the GRE, so let's pray for a good result there.

Last but not least, we need to keep praying for safety for Ben Sullivan. He was out of town for Thanksgiving and will be out of town for Christmas as well. Pray that God will look over him while he works and Teresa and the kids while they are here.

-------------------------

I think that covers matters for this week. What a busy time of year!

May all of you have a great week. We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday.

Turkey Week Update

Friends:

Good afternoon, all! I hope you're enjoying your Sunday afternoon. Let's begin by saying a big welcome to Matt and Liz Workman. They visited our class this morning. We enjoyed having you with us, Matt and Liz! (They also brought along little Maddie Grace, who was a perfect angel during the entire class, by the way!). We hope you'll come back and see us again next Sunday, Matt and Liz!

Us Nulls brought the donuts this morning. Next week, Kirsten and Shane are in charge. Thanks, guys!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

As expected, we have lots going on this week. Let's begin by praying for everyone who will be traveling. Pray for safe travel and an enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone. Us Nulls will leave Wednesday morning for New Mexico and will return Saturday.

We need to keep up our prayers for Reese. As I think all of you know, she is now at home and doing just fine. From what I understand, she will begin chemo treatments tomorrow. Please continue to pray for strength and health during the weeks and months that are ahead. We also need to pray for the rest of the Nicholson clan. Pray that they will find a sense of "normalcy" during the many trips they will make during the upcoming weeks and months.

Let's keep praying for Shannon Smith as she deals with the death of her brother. Pray for peace and comfort and healing. We are here for you, Shannon!

We also need to pray for little Everett, Shane and Kirsten's son. He came down with a virus (not flu, swine flu, or RSV) this week that landed him in the hospital for a couple of nights. He has bronchialitis and will be taking breathing treatments. Please pray for better health for Everett!

Steve and Jennifer May are at Disney World this week. Pray that they will have a great trip and will return home safely.

Jill VanZee has asked that we pray for little Rylie, the daughter of her co-worker (Dr. Mundy) who recently had twins. Rylie had to have surgery to remove part of her small intestine. Pray for Rylie's recovery and for Dr. Mundy as she begins life with these two little girls.

Jill also brought a praise for her niece, Alexa. Her team won the South Dakota state volleyball championship last week. Great news for Alexa! Ask God to be with Alexa and her teammates as they celebrate this exciting victory. Who knows, before long Alexa just might turn into a South Dakota State Jack Rabbit like her aunt and uncle! Go Jacks, baby!

We need to pray for Christina G. as she goes in for surgery on Wednesday. Pray that everything will go smoothly and that the surgery will do exactly what it is supposed to do. We are praying for you, Christina!

Last but certainly not least, let's keep up our prayers for Beth and Matt. Little Levi will be here in less than 3 months! These days are quite exciting for the Ramsdell family. Pray for continued growth, strength, and health for Levi. Pray for comfort for Beth and understanding for Matt as he learns the joys of installing a car seat for the first time. Use that knee, baby!

-------------

I believe that catches us up with everything for this week. May God bless all of you during this Thanksgiving holiday. May we thank God on Thursday for the wonderful friends and family we are able to enjoy each day. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

See you next Sunday!

Reese going home tonight!!!

I just heard word that Reese is going home tonight! Thank God for that! I don't believe they have achieved the necessary poop event just yet, but the Scott & White folks are letting them go home anyway.

Yea for the Nicholson clan!

Update on Miss Reese . . . .

Friends:

Well, I had a chance to see beautiful Miss Reese this morning. Doesn't she look great! She seems to be making great progress. Brian and Amy still aren't sure when they will be able to go home, but Reese is eating normal food (cereal, applesauce, sandwich, etc.). She is up moving around and, as you can see, riding that tricycle all over the hospital. They still need some bowel movement action before they will let her escape. That could happen today, but there is also a chance they could still be in the hospital for 1-2 more days. Please keep praying that Reese will be released soon.

They also continue to wait on the second pathology report. Everyone expects it to confirm the first set of results, but we need to keep praying for that. I believe they are hoping to get this second round of results tomorrow.

As for the chemo treatments, they will start as soon as they have the pathology reports. I don't think they know how long these treatments will last, but I've heard anything from 12 weeks to 18 weeks. It looks as though they will be driving to Scott & White once each week for the duration of the chemo treatments.

I think that's all for now. Keep praying for strength and patience for all of the Nicholsons. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I will let you know know as soon as I hear news that they are able to go home. They will need our support even more then as they get settled into their new routine.

Brian, my offer's still good on that Shreveport trip. How about March or April?

Path Results: Best News Possible!

Friends:

Great news here. I just received a text from Brian. Here's what he says:

"Path report back . . . . stage 1--favorable . . . oncologist said this was the best possible news we could have asked for . . ."

Praise God for this! I believe they are looking at 3-4 months of "bland" chemo. Let's keep praying that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for Reese and the rest of the Nicholson clan.

Thank you to everyone who has been praying. Let's keep it up!

Wes

Hopefully pathology report tomorrow . . . .

Friends:

As far as I know, Reese continues to make good progress. They have now been able to remove her IV, so she is completely free from the bed. Woohoo!! Praise God for that news. She also has begun to do a bit more standing up and walking. I also think she has begun to eat a bit more, especially popsicles.

The biggest matter we need to pray about now is the pathology reports. The first should come back tomorrow. Amy was told they should know something by Noon. Please continue to pray that they will receive the best news possible. Pray also for Brian and Amy during this stressful time of waiting.

We also need to pray that they will be able to leave the hospital as soon as possible. I don't believe they have been given a day yet, but maybe sometime within the next 2-3 days. Let's pray for that. All of you know how stressful and draining time in the hospital can be.

Finally, let's keep up our prayers that Reese will be in as little pain as possible. Everyone is quite proud of how she is handling the recovery.

That's all I know at this time. Thanks very much for your continued prayers for Reese, Brooke, Mallory, Brian, and Amy.

A Full Week of Prayers . . . . .

Friends:

Good evening! I hope everyone has had a good Sunday. This is obviously a busy, busy time for lots of people (and it will only get busier with the holidays arriving!). We also have lots of prayers to get to today. First off, though, let's say thank you to Ben and Teresa Sullivan for bringing our snacks today. We appreciate it, Sullivans! Us Nulls are in charge next week.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

We have a long list of people to keep in our prayers this week. To begin, the service for Shannon Smith's brother was this afternoon. We need to keep praying for strength and comfort for Shannon and her family. Pray that God will surround them with exactly what they need during this difficult time.

We also need to continue our prayers for little Reese and the entire Nicholson family. We need to pray for continued positive news as they receive the pathology reports back this week. Pray for strength for Reese and understanding for Brooke. Pray for rest and easier days for Brian and Amy. You can read their latest update by clicking here.

Jill VanZee brought good news today that Raelynn's surgery went well. She also brought a praise that her friend from work, Dr. Mundy, gave birth to two healthy girls last week. Let's pray for a quick recovery for Mom and a great start to life for the twin girls.

Jennifer Fadal has a praise that Miss Grace turns 5 today. Can you believe that?! I swear it was just yesterday when Grace was born. Let's pray that Grace will have a great day.

Jennifer also would like for us to pray for her sister. Her baby boy, Easton Kyle, has been having some fussy days lately. Pray for easier days soon.

Brian VanZee is out of town and will be home in a few days. Let's pray for safety for Brian while he is away and a safe trip home later this week.

We need to keep up our prayers for little Levi-to-be. Let's pray that he and Beth will get stronger every day and that Levi will arrive right on time and completely healthy.

Kirsten and Shane have asked that we pray for little Jack Kemper, their nephew. He's 3. He is battling leukemia. Pray that Jack will respond better to treatments and will be able to live as complete a life as possible while he battles this disease.

Jennifer Fadal would like for us to pray for Annette Engel. She is also battling luekemia. She is making some changes in her medications. Pray that her physicians will find the right combination that will help her feel well.

Last but certainly not least, Christina G. has asked that we pray for her Mother. She has not been feeling well. Pray that she will get back to complete health very soon.

-----------

I think that covers matters for today. Thanks to all of you for keeping these friends in your prayers. The past couple of weeks have been difficult ones for many people in our class. Let's pray that the upcoming week will be as enjoyable as the last one was difficult!

See you next Sunday.

Wes

Reese making progress . . . .

Friends:

I thought everyone might like to see a picture of Miss Reese. Does she look beautiful and peaceful or what?! For those of you who don't know, she gets that thumb sucking thing from her father. He does that every time Texas plays a football game. Okay, well, maybe not today . . . . not much stress for the Longhorns. : )

Reese continues to make good progress. Everyone seems to be quite pleased with how strong she is. She looked great to me! I believe they are down to just one IV in her, which is certainly a move in the right direction. Reese also has managed to get out of the bed to take a few trips around the hospital. Sounds like great progress to me.

The wait right now appears to be on the pathology reports. They should hear more Monday and then again on Wednesday. The results from within Scott & White should come Monday and the second round from the Wilms Institute people on Wednesday. We need to continue to pray for nothing but good news. Pray that what Reese had was indeed Wilms tumor and that she will be able to put all of this behind her in just a few months after chemotherapy treatments. From what I understand, Brian and Amy will know a great deal more on Wednesday or Thursday about what the next few months will hold. We also need to keep praying that Reese will be in as little pain as possible. I believe today has been a bit better, but listen to Amy on these matters. By the way, I've posted a link to their Caring Bridge page at the top right of this blog page.

Amy wants everyone to know how thankful she is for the support. Either Dana or I plan to go visit again tomorrow, so if you would like to bring a gift for them to church/class, bring it in the morning and we will make sure they get it.

Let's keep praying, everyone!

Funeral Service for Shannon Smith's Brother

Friends:

Here's an update on the funeral service for Shannon Smith's brother. It will take place this Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the Wilkerson Hatch Bailey chapel. Steve R. will be doing the service. After the service, the Smiths will host a reception at their house (204 Westlane Circle, Woodway) for anyone who would like to come.

We need to keep praying for Shannon, her Mom, and the rest of the family during this difficult time. Let's pray for a service that will celebrate Corey's life. We are here for you, Shannon.

On Sunday morning, I would like for us to talk as a class about how we can support Shannon and Rod during the weeks to come.

Thanks for your prayers for them,

Wes

Reese out of PICU . . .

Friends:

From what I know, Reese has now moved out of pediatric intensive care and into a "regular" room where she was before the surgery. I believe they have had a somewhat difficult day today dealing with Reese's pain. We need to continue to pray that the pain will get better with each passing day. I believe today and tomorrow are expected to be the hardest days. We also need to keep praying for Brian and Amy as they go through difficult hours and days of helping Reese to recover.

Several people have asked when Reese might be able to come home. I have heard different estimates, but I believe she might be able to come home sometime during the middle of next week. That is when we will need to find many additional ways to help Brian and Amy.

We are praying for you guys, Brian and Amy!

A Good Day of Recovery for Reese

There is nothing but good news today for Reese. They have apparently been able to manage her pain just fine. She has been sitting up in bed and talking. From what I understand, they may not be able to move her to a regular room until tomorrow sometime. They also are waiting to get the pathology reports back. I believe they hope to hear by sometime early next week. Those reports will determine a great deal as far as the treatments are concerned. I believe the tumor will go to a place called the "Wilms Institute" for special analysis by people who spend their lives with this stuff.

Let's keep praying for healing for Reese every minute of the day. We also need to keep praying that Brian and Amy will have time to get some rest.

If I hear that things have changed in any significant way, I will post an update.

Let's keep praying and supporting them. You know we are here for you, Brian and Amy!

A bit more on the surgery

Once again, the surgery went according to plan. It lasted approximately 7 hours. It lasted that long not because of any complications, but because the surgeon wanted to be careful and make sure he got everything. The tumor was quite large, approximately 7 inches. It was shaped something like a football and weighed about a pound and a half. Brian saw pictures of it, and he compared it to a nerf football. The stage of the cancer looks to be either stage 1 or stage 2. It is most likely not stage 3, but they won't know more for a few days. The doctors are quite certain at this point that it is not stage 4 or 5 since the cancer has not spread to any other organs or lymph nodes. The surgeon did remove a couple lymph nodes just as a precautionary measure. They will be tested.

The only real concern the surgeon seemed to express was related to one spot on the tumor that looks a bit different from the rest. The surgeon said he would be surprised if what Reese has wasn't Wilms tumor, but they won't know for sure until they receive pathology tests back in a few days. The spot on the tumor that looks a bit different could be nothing.

At this point, the main thing we need to pray for is Reese's pain. She will be in a considerable amount of pain for the next few days. She is currently in pediatric intensive care. She will most likely be there for 1-2 days. They will be giving her Tylenol and other narcotic-type medications. Pray that Reese will be in as little pain as possible. Pray also for Brian and Amy as they help Reese deal with her pain and recovery.

Once again, I am so very proud of Brian and Amy. They are handling all of this in such a strong way. They are such great role models for the rest of us.

I plan to go visit again either Friday or Saturday. Thanks again to all of you who have sent gifts to them. I know they appreciate anything (text messages, emails, facebook posts, etc.). They read everything and are very grateful for the love that they are feeling from all of you. If anyone wants to send something with me, just let me know and I will take it with me when I go.

God bless all of you for praying for precious little Reese!

Wes

Surgery went well

Friends:

Well, there is great news tonight. The surgery went according to plan. The tumor has been completely removed. Amy and Brian are very relieved. I am going to go ahead and post this short message and provide details in a second one in just a few minutes.

Thank God for a successful surgery!

Wes

Surgery not over yet, but getting close . . .

Still only positive news regarding the surgery. The internal part is over, and she has now been sewn back together. They are now inserting the port that will be used for treatments after surgery.

I'll post another update as soon as the surgery is over. Reese will be spending at least a little bit of time in ICU tonight.

All of us should be very proud of how strong Brian and Amy are being through all of this. I know I am!

Let's keep praying for them. More in a bit.

Wes

Surgery Update

Hello everyone. Brian and Amy have just heard great news about the surgery. The kidney and the tumor have both been removed. The best news is that the tumor has been removed without being ruptured. This is very important and good news. Praise God for that! The surgery is still underway and shouldn't be complete for a little while longer. I will post another update as soon as the surgery is completed (great wireless in the waiting room, by the way, which is important for updates).

Thank you for your continued prayers for Reese and the rest of the Nicholson crew. Let's pray that the surgery will end smoothly and that Reese will be on her way to recovery within an hour or so.

Surgery Still Scheduled for Today at Noon

Friends:

I thought everyone might like to see a picture of beautiful Miss Reese. As far as I know, the surgery is still scheduled for today at Noon. Thank you for your continued prayers for her. Thanks, also, for the many gifts that people have bought for Brooke, Mallory, Brian, and Amy. Jeff Hookham and I are headed to the hospital late this afternoon and will take everything to them then.

Let's keep praying for everyone involved in the surgery. She is going to come through this just fine!

Surgery at Noon Tomorrow

Friends:

Here is the latest. Reese's surgery is scheduled for Noon tomorrow at Scott & White in Temple. It will last approximately 4-6 hours. I don't know specifics here, but I think they are still battling fever somewhat. Reese has a urinary tract infection due to the tumor pressing on her bladder.

There is good news that the CT scans from yesterday did not show any spread to anywhere else beyond the kidney and the tumor. Let's pray for continued good news that the cancer cells will remain where they are.

Brian and Amy have asked specifically that we pray that the tumor will remain in tact and will not burst in any way. Pray that everything will go smoothly and that Reese will be on her way to complete recovery by this time tomorrow night. Brian and Amy also would like for us to pray for Brooke. Pray that she will understand everything they are going through.

I think that's all for now. I plan to head down there tomorrow afternoon about 5:15 or 5:30. I will send another update as I learn more.

Thanks so much to everyone who is praying for the Nicholsons and supporting them in so many ways. Let's keep in mind that we are running a marathon with them here, not a sprint. Amy and Brian, we are here for you every step of the way.

Wes

Waiting on news . . . .

Friends:

Heard from Brian this morning. They are waiting for the doctors to stop by for a visit. I'll post an update once I hear from Brian after they've had a chance to discuss the surgery with the doctors.

Thanks for your continued prayers for them.

More on Reese

Friends:

Us Nulls just returned from a trip to see Reese, Amy, and Brian. They are hanging in there just fine. I am so proud of how they are handling this. The surgery will most likely not take place until Wednesday. They still need to wait until the fever goes down to do the surgery. The physicians are still confident that what Reese has a Wilms tumor. The good news is that everyone seems positive that the tumor is entirely treatable. Even if it is in Stage IV (and they don't know a stage yet), the surgeons say they should be able to remove it and take care of the problem. They won't exactly know what kind of tumor it is, however, until it has been removed. The tumor is partly inside and around her kidney, so she will most likely lose that kidney. The good news is that many, many people live long and healthy lives with only one kidney. We should know a lot more on Wednesday.

Many of you have asked about Reese and Mallory. Amy's parents and Brian's parents are in town, so they have plenty of help. Amy's Mom is at home tonight with Mallory and Brooke. They are trying to keep things as normal as possible for Mallory and Brooke.

At this point, we need to pray that the surgery will go smoothly and that they will continue to get good news. Pray that God will use all of us to support all five Nicholsons during this stressful time in their lives. God builds classes like ours especially for times like this, so let's do everything we can to help Brian and Amy come through this stronger than ever. I am absolutely certain that will happen.

In a separate post, I will include a list of restaurants near Scott & White (in Temple, in case anyone is wondering). A number of you have mentioned that you would like to help with a gift card or something similar. Look for that post within the next hour so.

Thank you for your continued prayers for this wonderful, strong family.

Wes

Update on Reese

Friends:

Here's the latest. The first CT scan was completed this morning. It looks as though Reese has a tumor inside her abdomen that will need to be removed. She has a fever right now, so the surgery will probably not take place until tomorrow. They need to wait for the fever to go down before they can do the surgery. The best guess is that what Reese has is something called a Wilms tumor. The good news is that this is something that is very treatable. The tumor just needs to be removed. According to the Mayo Clinic web site, "The outlook for most children with Wilms' tumor is very good."

Thank you for your prayers for the Nicholsons. We are planning to go see them this afternoon, so I will let you know what we can do to help them.

We're here for you, Amy and Brian.

Prayers for Reese, Amy, and Brian

Dear Friends:

We need to pray for the Nicholsons. They learned late last night that Reese has some sort of mass either on her stomach or her kidneys. They are at Scott & White this morning having a CT scan done. Amy has asked that we pray for healing and good news for Reese and strength for her and Brian.

Please say lots of prayers for them. We are here for you guys, Amy. I promise. Every step of the way. Let us know whatever you need. There are many, many people who want to help you. We are here to help you do whatever needs to be done. Just call me.

Let's all pray that the Nicholsons will get good news this morning and they will be able to put this behind them very soon. As soon as I hear from Brian after the CT scan is over, I will update our class blog. Check there for more information. I'm hoping this will help Brian focus on Reese and the other girls but still help us let everyone know what to pray for.

Thanks, everyone.

Lots Going on this Week . . . .

Dear Friends:

Well, there is no shortage of prayers and news today. Hope you guys are prepared to read a short novel!

Let's start out by saying a big welcome to David and Amanda Young. They were visitors in our class this morning. They have three kids ranging from 7th to 2nd grade. Great to have you guys with us, David and Amanda! We hope to see you guys again next week. As I said this morning, one thing's guaranteed. Good snacks and bad jokes every Sunday.

Next up, how about a big thank you to Nicki Sanchez! She whipped up some delicious pineapple upside down cake for us this morning, complete with homemade whipped cream. You are incredible, Nicki! Thanks so much for doing this for us. Next week, Ben and Teresa Sullivan are in charge. Thanks for signing up, Teresa!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

We have lots of people to remember this week. For starters, we need to keep up our prayers for Shannon Smith and her family. As I think most of you know, Shannon's 31 year old brother passed away earlier this week. His name was Corey. Shannon and her Mom leave Waco on Monday morning to travel to Scottsdale to bring Corey back here. They will be back in Waco Thursday. The service will be next Sunday afternoon. We are praying for you, Shannon. Please let me know what we can do for you. Rod, be sure to call this week if you need anything while Shannon is out of town. God is with you during this time, Shannon. I promise.

One more quick point about next Sunday. As you ladies know, Shannon's baby shower was planned for next Sunday. Obviously, that will be postponed. We'll discuss possibilities next week in class.

Teresa Sullivan has asked that we pray for the family of one of her former students who was killed in a car wreck this week. He had a blowout and flipped his pickup. Pray for everyone who is mourning.

Brian Nicholson has had an interesting few days. Amy has been out of town, and, as luck would have it, Ms. Reese came down sick. There hasn't been much sleep at the Nicholson home, from what I understand. Let's pray for better health for Reese and for sanity for Brian. (Brian, now is the perfect time to make that pitch for a return trip to Shreveport. How about Wednesday, January 6th?) By the way, Brian, ushering went as smooth as possible this morning. In fact, it went smoother than when you are there. Does this mean you need to be fired?

Steve and Jennifer May are returning from New York City today after a weekend celebration for Jennifer's birthday. Pray for safe travel for them.

I don't know many details on this one, but I think Shawn Buhner is having some tests run soon. Pray for good news for Shawn. Shelley, text me the details when you get a chance! We're praying for you, Shawn.

We need to keep praying for the Ramsdells, especially Beth and little-Levi-on-the-way. Pray for good days for Beth.

Vince E. has several prayers and praises for us this week. For starters, Ms. Malia is dealing with chicken pox. Pray that she will get over them soon. Second, Vince would like for us to keep praying for his friends, the Menekers. They are the ones in Oklahoma fighting for custody of two twin boys. There will be another court date in December. Pray for resolution soon and for the best situation possible for the boys. Next, Vince wants us to pray for Christian Erickson (no relation). He apparently had a wreck this weekend and needs our prayers for recovery. Last but not least, Vince brought great news that he is looking at several job possibilities. For starters, he will be helping with the broadcasts (don't know any details here) of the BU basketball games. He also has a few TV sportscaster options that he's looking at, the best one of which looks to be in Colorado Springs, CO (a great spot, by the way, Vince!). Let's pray that God is with Mary and Vince as they look at options and make some important decisions. We're praying for you guys!

Christina G. is off to a good start with her new job. Pray that next week will go well, also. We also need to pray for her as she goes in for some outpatient surgery on the day before Thanksgiving. Pray that the surgery will go smoothly and that it will do everything it needs to do.

Brian VanZee heads out for a hunting trip on Wednesday and will be gone for several days. Pray for his safety and for an enjoyable trip. Jill, as usual, please call if you need anything!!!

Also on the VanZee front, Raelynn goes in later this week to have one of her little ear tubes replaced. Pray that the procedure will go well. She also might have her adenoids removed on Friday. If that happens, pray that it will go smoothly as well. Busy end of week, Jill! I can help with kid dropoff if you need to bring Breeley to our house for some reason.

Lastly with the VanZees, Jill would like for us to pray for one of her friends from college, Renee. She has been dealing with an alcohol problem for some time. The good news is that she has at last decided to get some professional help. Pray that the treatment will do the job and that Renee will have many alcohol free days very soon.

Last but not least, let's pray for everyone who has been affected by the terrible shooting at Fort Hood. Pray for peace, comfort, and support for all of the families.

---------

I think that catches us up for now. As you can see, lots of people need our thoughts and prayers this week. Thanks for keeping all of these people in mind as you tackle your busy week ahead.

Look forward to seeing all of you again next Sunday.

Wes

Prayers for Shannon Smith

Friends:

Shannon Smith received some very difficult news yesterday. Her 31 year old brother has passed away. Please keep Shannon and her family in your prayers. I believe the funeral will take place here in Waco, perhaps late next week.

We're here for you, Shannon. Thanks, everyone, for keeping Shannon in your prayers.

Uh, November?!, and Other Class Stuff

Friends:

Good afternoon, all! Is it seriously November?! Incredible!

Even without Jeff and I in attendance, it looks as though the Cowboys may pull out a victory. Hope I'm not jinxing them! (That statement could cause a death threat or two, by the way?! Bring it on!).

Thanks to the Hookhams for feeding us donuts this morning! Appreciate you guys. Next week, Ben and Nicki Sanchez are in charge. Thanks, Ben and Nicki!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's move on to prayers and praises. Jill V-Zee would like for us to keep praying for her friend, Dr. Mundy. She is on bed rest and is set to have twins within the next few weeks. Pray for healthy babies and a quick recovery for Dr. Mundy.

How about a praise for the great Pumpkin Patch last weekend! The kids had a great time. Thanks to everyone who made it happen! I especially want to thank those who worked the booth for our class. We appreciate you guys very much!

Brian V-Zee has asked that we pray for one of his co-workers, Bobby Farquhar. Bobby's Mother passed away this past week. Pray for the family during this difficult time.

Mary Erickson has a high school friend, Carol Tillman, who passed away this past week from swine flu. Please pray for Carol's family.

Christina G. brought great news this morning that she now has a job! She will begin with the Texas Collection at Baylor tomorrow. Pray for Christina as she begins her new job. She also would like for us to pray for her friend Cayte. Her Dad was recently diagnosed with skin cancer. Pray for good treatment and good news. Last but not least, Christina goes back to see her physician on Thursday to check on a dysplasia situation that she recently learned about. Please pray for nothing but good news for Christina on Tuesday.

Dana would like for us to pray for Shirley Thrailkill. She and Clifton have been tackling some problems lately and could use our prayers.

Would you believe Jennifer May turns 40 this week! Yep. Happy birthday, Jennifer! I believe the big day is Tuesday. Let's pray that Jennifer will enjoy her special day.

Last but certainly not least, let's keep praying for Beth and little Levi Ramsdell. Pray that Levi will get stronger every day and that Beth will experience nothing but health and comfort.

---------

Well, I think that's it for today, everyone. Better get started with that Christmas shopping!

We look forward to seeing you next week!

Wes

This Sunday's Update

Friends:

Great weather, eh?! Hope you're having a good weekend. I haven't heard much talk of flu lately, so I'm hoping that folks are a bit healthier these days. We had a great class this morning. Today was Children's Sunday, which means that the 2nd graders got Bibles. The church was also full of lots of fun and games for the kiddos. Thanks to everyone who planned this special day!

We also need to thank Vince & Mary for bringing our snacks this morning. They even managed to sneak in some kolaches! Thanks, guys. Next week, Brian and Jill VanZee are in charge. Thanks, V-Zees!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

We have lots of people to keep in mind today. First off, Ashlee McCrary has asked us to pray for her friend Jiliane. This is a very sad story in which Jiliane's two month old daughter recently died of SIDS. Here is Ashlee's message to me. Please pray for Jiliane and the family during this terribly difficult time.

------

Hi Wes,

I have a devastating prayer request that I hope your Sunday School class will include! An old friend of mine, Jiliane Jobe lost her 2 month old baby Jaylie Sunday morning. She died in her sleep. They have now received the autopsy results & it showed nothing on it. This has now been ruled a case of SIDS. Baby Jaylie's funeral is today at 2pm outside of Waco.

Here's a link to the obituary

Please pray for strength for Jiliane & her family to get through this tragedy! I'm so heartbroken for this family! I went to Elementary & Jr High school with Jiliane & played softball with her & had just recently gotten back in touch with her on Facebook when she was pregnant & had talked about getting together sometime with our girls soon. I dont know how she's going to get through this, but she needs prayers! Please include her family on the church prayer list. Thanks!

Ashlee

--------

We also need to keep up our prayers for Shawn Buhner. His Mother's funeral will be Friday. Pray for strength and peace for Shawn and his family.

Nicki Sanchez would like for us to keep praying for her friend, Carey. She lost her two-day old baby about two weeks ago. Carey and her family are of course devastated. Pray for healing and for support from friends and family for Carey and her family.

Brian Nicholson's uncle passed away last week. Brian was very close to him. Pray for Brian and his family during this time of mourning. Pray, also, for safe travel for the Nicholsons as they head to and from the funeral.

Ben Sullivan has a praise and a prayer request. It looks as though he may be getting a promotion, but it also means that he will likely be in Mexico doing his oil patch work. The job also is a bit more dangerous. Pray for safety for Ben and for strength for Teresa while Ben is out of town for work.

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her as she works to find ways to pay for her college tuition. She also asked us to pray for her parents. They will be traveling to Oklahoma this week for a vacation.

Bernie Hookham is headed to Houston toward the end of this week for a conference. Pray for her safe travel and for Jeff and the two girls while Bernie is out of town!

Also on the Nicki Sanchez front, she would like for us to keep praying for her Mom. She has now pushed her wedding back until next Summer. Nicki asked that we pray for guidance and good decision-making for her Mom.

Let's keep up our prayers for Beth and little Levi-to-be! Beth passed around the ultrasound photos this morning. The young man looks terrific. Pray for health and strength and comfort for Beth and Levi. Beth, the big day will be here before you know it!

Bernie Hookham would like us to pray for two people at her work who are now looking for a new place of employment. Pray that they will find the right kind of employment very soon.

Last (and not least!), Jeff Hookham and I are traveling next Sunday to Dallas to watch the Cowboys play the Atlanta Falcons. Pray for our safe travel. I plan to stop at only seven twelve dollar beers, so I should be safe on the way home (uh, that was a joke . . . . . not a drinker. : ) ).

---------

I think that covers matters for today, folks. Since I will be gone next Sunday, Steve May has kindly agreed to teach the class. Thanks very much, Steve! I know the highlight of the week for most of you is my unforgettable delivery of hilarious jokes. I hope you'll be okay without this part of your week next Sunday. If you need me to read jokes aloud, just let me know and I will upload a YouTube video or something. : ) Seriously, maybe Jennifer May will come through with a few jokes?!?!

Have a great week, everyone!

Prayer Request from Nicki Sanchez

From Nicki:

I hate to bother you, but I would like to add prayer if you wouldn't mind. A good friend of mine from high school had to have an emergency c-section last night. Her son was six weeks early, and he passed away this morning. Her name is Carrie Headley, and she had named her son Madden Axle. She also has two other little ones at home, so please keep them in your prayers too.

Thank you,
Nicki

Christmas Party, Baby Shower, and the Normal Stuff

Friends:

Good afternoon, all! Hope you've enjoyed this rain-soaked Sunday. We have lots of business, so let's get to it.

Thanks to the Mays! They took care of our snacks today. Next up, Vince and Mary E. Thanks, everyone!

BABY SHOWER FOR BETH RAMSDELL

Jill VanZee has kindly agreed to organize a shower for Beth Ramsdell. It will take place from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13th, at the VanZee home. The event is for couples, so that means us fellas are invited, along with the chilluns. Put the date on your calendars! I talked with Brian, and we plan to shoot the bows and arrows with the kids in the backyard while you ladies open gifts. No worries. We'll be safe. : ) (That was a joke--HA- : ) ).

If you want to help in any way, please contact Jill. Her email address is as follows: jill.vanzee@hotrmhmr.org. This will be a great way to bless Matt and Beth. Thank you, Jill, for helping!

CLASS CHRISTMAS PARTY!
The annual class Christmas Party is back!!!!!! We talked in class this morning about when and where to make it happen. Rumor has it that Santa just may appear once again. This is always a great time for the kids. Jennifer May said that she would look into the possibility of hosting the event at her house again. If not, we will look into other possibilities. Jennifer also agreed to give Santa a call to see if he could work us into his schedule. Thank you so much, Jennifer! If you can do this for us, just give me a date and we'll make it happen! I'm sure there will be conflicts no matter what, so just pick a date that's good for you!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Now on to prayers and praises. My mother- and father-in-law, Bettie and Phillip George, are headed home to New Mexico tomorrow. Pray for their safe travel.

How about another praise for Matt and Beth! Everyone seems to be quite excited about this little boy who is on the way. Let's continue to pray for health for Beth and the baby.

Vince E. would like for us to pray for Mary. She is returning home from South Dakota following her grandmother's funeral. Pray for her safe travel and for everyone who is mourning this loss. Pray, also, for little Malia while Mary is out of town. She misses Mommy!

Vince also has asked that we pray for one of his friends who is struggling with unemployment and who also has a baby on the way. Pray that things will work out with the job search soon. Pray for the health of the baby as well.

Christina G. has two job interviews this week. Let's pray that both of them will go well. She also has a doctor's visit this week. Pray that everything will go well with that. Last but not least with Christina, her parents are driving home tomorrow from being out of town. Pray for a safe trip for them.

The VanZees have a busy week ahead! Jill will be out of town the first half of the week, and Brian will be out of town the second. Pray that their trips will go well. Call me if you need any help shuttling the kids around, Jill!

The Mays also have a busy couple of weeks of travel. Jennifer has a scrapbooking trip coming up, and Steve will be in New Jersey for work soon. Pray that both of their trips will go well and that the kids will handle everything fine.

Let's not forget the Buhners and the loss of Shawn's Mom. Pray that God will continue to be with them during this time of mourning. We're with you, Shawn!

-------------

I think that gets us up-to-date, folks. I hope all of you have a great week. We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday morning!

It's a Boy!

Friends:

I just heard from Matt. That's the prediction: a boy! Congratulations, guys! Beth informs me that they will be naming him James Wesley Ramsdell. I am so honored! Uh, no. Just kidding, folks. : ) It appears as though the name will be Levi Oakes Ramsdell. What a beautiful name!

We are so happy for you guys, Matt and Beth. We'll keep praying for you.

Wes

P.S.--Brian, you will be okay. I promise. Take some deep breaths and think about the fact that the Longhorns are undefeated. If you need counseling, call my cell phone.

El Nino, El Prayerso, and El Praiso: P.S.--Cowboys in Denver!

Friends:

Good afternoon, all! Hope you're enjoying your Sunday afternoon. I heard a rumor today that El Nino is the cause of all this rain. Who knows. Whatever the case, I'm enjoying it! The only problem is that all of this water might wake up the grass . . . . . NO!

Thanks to Jill VanZee, we had some great donuts and cinnamon rolls this morning! We appreciate you, Jill. Next week, Steve and Jennifer May are in charge. Thanks for coming through yet again, Mays!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

We don't have too many announcements this week, so let's get right to our prayers and praises.

We need to pray for the Buhner family. Shawn's Mom passed away early this morning. Please pray for peace and comfort for the entire Buhner family. Hang in there, Shawn. We are praying for you.

Beth Ramsdell is home sick with a cold today. Given that she's 5-6 months pregnant, she can't take many medications. Pray that she will get better soon. On Tuesday, Matt and Beth will also find out the flavor of this little youngster Beth's carrying. The pattern for our class is lots of girls (see Brian Nicholson for details), but we'll see how you guys do. We'll be excited to hear! Let me know, guys.

Brian and Breeley VanZee are hunting this weekend. Pray for their safe travel home this afternoon. Rumor has it that Breeley is quite the markswoman with her .22 rifle.

How about Cindy Abbott! She joined our church this morning. Great to have you as a member, Cindy! Praise God for your great decision. We look forward to having you with us every week!

Christina G. leaves for Denton on Friday. Pray for her safe travel. She also will be celebrating her Dad's 60th birthday this week. Pray for a good celebration. Finally, Christina's Mom and Dad leave this week for some time at their beach home. Pray for a safe trip and an enjoyable time away.

Happy birthday Jeff Hookham! Just for the record, here, Jeff is five years older than yours truly. So, in addition to me being better looking than Jeff, having better hair, catching more fish, and being smarter, I'm younger. Happy birthday, Jeff! Rumor has it that he and I will be traveling to a Cowboys game in a few weeks to celebrate. Look out, baby. That stadium ain't see nothing' yet. I want on the big screen.

Jennifer May would like for us to pray for the new Pre-K teacher at her school. She begins tomorrow. Pray for Jennifer and everyone else who is helping the new teacher settle in. Pray for the students who will begin with a new teacher tomorrow.

Jill V. also would like for us to pray for one of her co-workers. She will be giving birth to twins soon. She has been dealing with some sicknesses lately, so that has made the pregnancy a bit more difficult than normal. Pray for her and these two little babies. Pray for a successful birth and healthy babies.

Last but not least, let's pray for our church as we search for a new song/worship leader for the 9:30 service. Pray that God will lead the right person to us.

---------------

I think that covers matters for today, everyone. The only other possible prayer, given all of the Cowboys fans out there, would be for the Cowboys to beat the Denver Broncos today, but I figure God has other matters to worry about (no offense Cowboys fans!). By the way, why didn't one of you Cowboys fans plan a road trip and invite me to this game?! Sure would be nice to make a trip to the mountains and do some fly-fishing! Great fishing to be had in northern Colorado. I'm always ready, folks!

Have a great week, everyone. We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday morning.

Today's News, Prayers, and, uh, Pumpkin Patch--Are you Kidding Me?!

Friends:

Good afternoon, all! Well, it looks as though summer has returned, at least for a few more weeks. The good news is that the grass is finally slowing down. Hallelujah! I'm moving to cutting every other week at the Null home.

Let's start off by saying a big welcome to Jennifer and Dan Martinsen. They visited our class this morning. Great to have you guys, Jennifer and Dan! We hope you will come back and see again next Sunday. We'll be looking for you. As long as someone sends me nominations, I promise the jokes will be good!

Next, us Nulls brought the goodies today, so, good for us! Next week, Brian and Jill VanZee are in charge (in fact, it's just Jill; Brian will be hunting bambi). Thanks VanZees!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's get down to business.

Jennifer Fadal has asked that we continue to pray for her sister. She only has about 4 weeks of pregnancy left. She remains on bed rest. Pray for health for Mommy and baby. Pray for strength for Jennifer's sister during these last few weeks.

On that note, let's keep up our prayers for the Ramsdells. I believe they will be able to find out the gender of this little baby soon. Pray for continued health and strength for Beth and the baby. We're praying for you, Beth!

Teresa Sullivan would like for us to keep praying for the student of hers who had a miscarriage last week. Pray for everyone who has been affected by this difficult situation.

Also with the Sullivans, Ben is headed back to work on Tuesday morning. Pray for his safe travel and for his health while on the job.

The Mays have asked us to pray for Ty Richardson, one of Ben's football teammates. Ty broke his leg last week during a game. Pray for his quick and complete recovery.

Several people in class brought up the fact that we need to pray for Susan Wehmeyer. She is battling cancer and badly needs a bone marrow transplant. Pray that a donor will be found and Susan will get the treatments she needs. Pray, also, that Susan will have the family and friends around her that she needs at this time.

Jennifer May would like for us to pray for one of her students who is now being home-schooled. His parents are trying to learn how best to handle his autism. Pray that the parents will find the best situation for this little Kindergartener.

Ben Sullivan brought good news that his grandmother's tests went well last week. She does not have dementia or Alzheimer's. She has been given some treatments that should help her. Let's pray that Ben's grandma has better days very soon.

Greg Hudson mentioned that we need to pray for the family of the teacher who was killed in Tyler this past week. Pray for strength for the family and everyone else who is mourning this tragic loss.

Several people in class also mentioned that we need to keep praying for Allison Brown and the Brown family. Allison's husband died last week. Please pray for everyone who is struggling to deal with this reality. Pray, especially, for the children. Pray that they will have the support, strength, and courage they need.

Brian and Breeley VanZee are headed to San Angelo next weekend for a little Daddy-daughter hunting adventure. Pray that they will have a good time and will be safe. Let's pray that Breeley will fall in love with hunting with Daddy!

Finally, I leave town on Thursday for a short two-day conference trip to Washington. I'd appreciate your prayers for my safe travel. I will be back late Saturday night. I may need two Dr. Peppers on Sunday morning!

PUMPKIN PATCH IS COMING UP!!!

Get this, folks. We just finished the Block Party and Pumpkin Patch has already arrived. Are you kidding me?! Is Halloween already here?! I don't believe it. Before we know it, we will be celebrating spring and the end of the school year (okay, okay; I know that's a bit much). This is a great event for the kids, full of lots of games, arts & crafts, and related Halloween activities. It will take place on Sunday, October 25th, from 4:00-5:30 in the Family Life Center. Be sure to bring the kids! Pumpkin Patch is great fun every year.

Our class will more than likely be working the "Tumbling Towers", which is the ping-pong drop game (show up to understand completely!). We already have the shifts covered. Here's the sign-up list. Thanks so much to everyone who volunteered to work! You guys are terrific!

I think that takes care of everything for this week. I think we're off to a good start with our study of Luke. Next week, things will get a bit more interesting when we look specifically at how Luke makes sense of the birth of Christ.

Have a great week, everyone! We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday.

Wes, will you please forward this to the class?

I want to say thank you to everyone for your prayers. I just had an eye-opener during the church sermon. It really hit me that I have commitment issues stemming from my divorce a year ago as well as problems with the church I used to attend in Florida. I have been a visitor at FUMC all summer long. I have been afraid to re-commit my life to God. I knew that if I joined a church, then commitment to the Lord was part of the deal. I wasn't sure I was ready to take that step. But, I am ready now and will be joining the church next Sunday. (I am going to visit the new class they are starting downstairs afterward so I won't be in class with you guys that day.) I wanted to share my decision with you all because you have made me feel so welcome, and I believe that your prayers have helped give me the courage to step away from the things that were preventing me from having the relationship God that I need to have.

Thank you and may God bless you all this week!

Good Block Party, Cooler Weather, and Halloween Stuff at Wal-Mart?

Friends:

Good evening, all! Hope everyone is doing well. We had a great discussion this morning in class. I have some thank yous to get out of the way tonight right away. First off, thank you to everyone who helped at the Block Party! We do appreciate it! I'm sure the consensus is that everyone had a great time. Beautiful weather, too! I think this means that fall is completely underway at our church. There are many great options for Wednesday nights, so be sure and look into the possibilities!

I also want to thank the Sullivans for bringing our snacks this morning. Delicious muffins, everyone! For those who weren't there, you missed out. Next Sunday, us Nulls are in charge of snacks. That means donut holes for the kids on the way to church! That should make for some happy youngsters!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's get to our prayers and praises. Nick and Ben Sanchez have asked that we pray for Nicki's Mom. She is getting remarried in just a few weeks. Please pray for a good ceremony and a great start to this marriage.

Vince E. has asked that we keep praying for the Meneker family. Pray that things will turn out well for these two boys. Pray for God's guidance for everyone who is making decisions.

Jennifer Fadal would like for us to pray for her sister, Susan. She is in the last few weeks of her pregnancy. Pray for a successful delivery and a healthy baby.

The Mays brought several prayers this morning. First and foremost, Steve would like the Cowboys to win tonight (that's a joke, kind of). Second (and much more importantly; seriously), Steve's Dad recently made a decision to recommit himself to his life in the church. His rededication was today. Praise God for this great decision for Steve's Dad. Jennifer would like for us to keep praying for her school. They will be interviewing candidates for the new pre-k teacher this week. Pray that everything will go well and that they will find the best person possible. Big Ben "The Rock" May turns 13 this week. Can you believe it?! Pray that God will bless Ben on his special day. Also, Jennifer would like for us to pray for her friend Victor who is going through some difficult times right now.

Jennifer also had a pray that others knew about in class today as well. There was a tragic suicide this weekend in Waco. We need to pray for Allison Brown, who lost her husband. She has a 7 year old, a 4 year old, and is due with their third baby in two weeks. This is a terribly sad and tragic situation. Please pray for strength and comfort for Allison and her family. They need all of the help we can give them.

We need to pray for Shannon Smith. She has been under the weather lately. Pray that she will feel better very soon.

Vince brought a praise this morning that his 82 year old Mother recently had a good trip to St. Louis and back. She's still driving and doing very well! Pray that everything will continue to go well for Vince's Mom. (My apologies for getting mixed up and saying grandmother this morning, Vince!).

We need to pray for Ben Sullivan. He leaves tomorrow to pick up his grandmother and take her to the doctor. Pray that the trip will go safely and that the doctor's visit will go well.

Teresa Sullivan would like for us to pray for one of her high school students who recently found out she was pregnant. Pray for wisdom, strength, and good decision making for everyone involved.

We need to pray for Shawn Buhner's Mom and the entire Buhner family. Shawn's Mom is very sick and not doing well. Pray that things will improve very soon. We're praying for you, Shawn! Hang in there!

Brian VanZee reports that we need to keep up our prayers for his aunt and uncle. They are the ones who had the major motorcycle accident a few weeks ago. They have been through additional reconstructive surgeries. They need our continued prayers for health and recovery.

Last but not least, Cindy Abbott would like for us to pray for her and some of the challenges she faces this week. We're praying for you, Cindy!

----------------

As you can see, we have lots of people who need our prayers and support this week. Thanks for supporting all of these people in any way that you can.

NEW STUDY NEXT WEEK--LUKE

Well, the time has come to transition to a new study. We will take a look at the book of Luke. The study is a series by Woodrow Kroll. I think it is very good. Here's the link. Pick up a copy if you can! As usual, I will make copies to bring to class:

http://www.amazon.com/Luke-Glory-Highest-Bible-Guides/dp/143350667X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253502666&sr=8-1

I hope all of you can be with us next week to begin!

Have a great week, everyone. We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday morning.

Wes

P.S.--Did I really see Halloween stuff at Wal-mart?

Rain, This Week's Stuff, and the Block Party is Here!

Friends:

Good evening, folks! Hope you've enjoyed this rainy weekend. Nice change of pace, eh?!

Thanks, Hudsons, for bringing our donuts this morning! Next week, Ben and Teresa will take care of it. From what I understand, Ben will be back from the oil patch by then.

DON'T FORGET THE BLOCK PARTY ON WEDNESDAY

The Block Party will begin this Wednesday at 5:30. Our class is in charge of the "Combo Obstacle Course". See the sign-up sheet (on the blog) for who is scheduled to work when. Thanks to everyone for signing up! This event is always a great deal of fun for everyone, especially the kids, so be sure and make it!

PRAYERS, NEWS, ETC.

Let's jump right to our prayers and praises for this week. Vince E. would like us to keep praying for his friends, the Menakers. They have been dealing with a custody battle for two foster children for about four years. The latest is that the case may be heard by the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Pray that everything will be resolved soon and that the best situation for these two boys will be the result.

Jill VanZee would like for us to pray for their neighbor, Tara. She is battling breast cancer and will begin another round of chemotherapy this week. This round is supposed to be much more invasive than the others, so pray that everything will go well.

Mary Erickson begins her new job with Early Childhood Intervention tomorrow. Pray that everything will get off to a great start for Mary.

Also with Mary, she would like for us to pray for a young man she works with who is having lots of trouble right now. Pray that his home situation will improve soon.

Jennifer would like for us to pray for her school as they search for a new Pre-K teacher. They now have enough students to justify a new teacher. Pray that they will find someone good who will fit in with the rest of the Pre-K teachers.

Christina G. brought good news this morning that she's made some progress with her personal finances. Pray that everything will continue in the right direction for Christina.

Last but not least, Jennifer May reports that Ben had a great first football game this past week. Let's continue to pray for Ben's safety and enjoyment while playing football. On that note, the Cowboys won today, so everything should be peaceful at the May home tonight. : )

-------------

I think that's all for now, folks. For those of you who could make it, I think we all enjoyed our "From Anger to Meekness" discussion based on 1 Samuel 25: 18-35 this morning. Next week, we will take a look at a lesson called "From Despair to Hope" based on Psalm 18: 1-6, 16-19, and 46-50.

Have a great week, folks. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday at the Block Party and then next Sunday morning!

H1N1, Da Bears, News, and Prayers

Friends:

Good evening, all! Hope you're enjoying this great 3 day weekend. I've just returned from a little run around the 'hood. Usain Bolt keeps texting me with a challenge to line up beside him next time he runs the 100 meter dash. He heard a rumor that I'm the only man left who can beat him. I figure I should train at least a little bit, but not too much. Don't want to hurt his feelings. : )

How about a big thanks to Rod and Shannon Smith! They supplied us with donuts this morning. Thanks for coming through for us, Rod and Shannon. Next week, rumor has it that the Hudson clan is on tap to bring us goodies. The only problem is that 3 out of 4 Hudsons are home sick with the flu. Only bring 'em if you guys are healthy, Courtney and Greg! If you can't do it, just let me know and us Nulls will take care of bidness. By the way, the fact that the Hudsons have come down with the flu before us is somewhat gratifying. If a physician's kids get sick, is there any hope for the rest of us?!

How 'bout dem Bears?! Undefeated, eh?! I'm glad to see that the, ahem, roughly $50 million dollars we've spent recently on a practice facility and related items has translated into at least one victory. Any chance we can get $50 million for library renovations now?! Congratulations, Bears!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's get to our prayers and praises for this Sunday.

Gabe Dominguez had an emergency appendectomy this past week. From what I understand, he is doing just fine, but we need to keep up our prayers for Gabe as he recovers.

Also with the Dominguez family, we need to pray for Maria, Gabe's daughter. She has been having seizures, the source of which nobody really knows. Please pray for seizure free days for Maria and overall good health.

As I mentioned above, the Hudsons are dealing with the flu. Pray that everything will get back to full health soon in their home.

I haven't heard of this week's sickness at the Nicholson home, but let's keep praying for their health anyway. God knows what they're facing this week. : )

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her parents. They are returning home from vacation this weekend. She also has asked us to pray for her friend Michelle. She had a puppy die this week.

Let's say a praise that Brian VanZee had a good conference and has now arrived home safely. You made it, Jill!

The Sanchez family is in San Antonio visiting family this weekend. Pray for a good visit and a safe trip home for them.

Mary Erickson injured her back this past week. Pray that her treatments will do the trick and she will get back to feeling normal again very soon.

We have three items to mention for the Mays this week. Benjamin has his first football game on Thursday. Pray that everything goes well. Jaret will play his guitar on Friday at a talent show. Let's pray that Jaret enjoys himself and does well. Steve, I convinced Jennifer this morning that Jaret should play a tune by Rascal Flatts. I'll get you the sheet music tomorrow (for those of you who don't know the inside joke here, Steve and I have a difference of opinion when it comes to the terrific music of Rascal Flatts!). As for Steve, let's say a big praise that he had a great 42nd birthday this past week. Good Lord, Steve, you're getting old!

Last but not least, let's pray for everyone who is dealing with the flu this week, H1N1 or not. This stuff seems to be spreading more quickly than hand sanitizer at a hypochondriacs' convention (that's the best I can do, folks; sorry!). Let's pray that all of us will make it through this fall flu season in complete health.

-----------

I think that's all for now, folks. If you would like to volunteer to work at the Block Party, take a look at the schedule below (on the blog) and let me know what slot you would like. I appreciate all of the help we can get.

LESSON FOR NEXT WEEK

For those of you who would like to read ahead, our lesson for next week will come from 1 Samuel 25: 18-35 and will be called "From Anger to Meekness".

Have a great week, everyone! We look forward to seeing you again Sunday morning.

Wes

P.S.--Just ask anyone who was there, this morning's jokes were world class. If you weren't there, you certainly missed out! Maybe we should begin a podcast?! : )

Cold Front, School Week 2, Block Party, News, and Stuff

Friends:

Good afternoon, everyone! Hope you've had a good weekend. How about this cold front we're experiencing?! I just got through washing the car. When the wind picked up and the temperature dropped below 95, I almost had to put on a coat. Let winter begin!

How about a big thank you to Beth and Matt Ramsdell. They brought our snacks today. We appreciate you guys, Matt and Beth! Next week, Rod and Shannon are signed up. Thanks, Rod and Shannon! I hope things are going well for little Dean at home.

BLOCK PARTY SIGN-UP

This morning, we sent around a sign-up sheet for working at the Sep 16th Block Party. Thanks to everyone who signed up! ANNOUNCEMENT: Midweek Children's Music

A very nice lady named Holly Parker stopped by our class this morning to make an announcement. She is in charge of the Midweek Children's Music. She would like to encourage us to get our little people involved. Holly's music program will begin on Wednesday, Sep 23rd, which is the Wednesday after the Block Party (the time will be the normal Midweek class starting time, whatever that is). The plans Holly described sound quite exciting. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity if you want your kids to get involved with some singing!

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Here's the scoop for our prayers and praises this week:

Would you believe that all three Nicholson girls have strep throat?! Yep, that's right. We need to pray for health at the Nicholson home. I saw Brian at the grocery store this afternoon, and he looks quite good in one of those little green masks. He should wear one all of the time. : ) Pray that the quarantine at the Nicholson home will be lifted soon and everyone can go back to school healthy right away. Pray, also, for sanity and sleep for Amy while she deals with three girls with strep throat and, well, Brian.

Let's keep praying for health for Beth Ramsdell. Everything seems to be moving along well with the pregnancy. I didn't have a chance to look today, but I'll check next week to make sure Matt is gaining the appropriate pounds along with Beth. We're praying for health and good days for you, Beth!

Vince E. would like us to pray for his niece, Fern, from North Carolina. She is going through some difficult family times right now. Pray that everything will get better very soon for Fern and her two kids.

Nicki Sanchez brought a praise this morning that Ben got good news last week as far as his promotion is concerned. He will now be working as a drill sergeant with the same troubled teens he's been working with before. This time, however, he'll be doing something other than watching them behind bars. Pray that everything will get off to a great start with Ben's new job. Pray that Ben will impact these youngsters in the way God wants him to. (By the way, Ben, you are now in charge of discipline in our class every Sunday morning. Be sure to bring your drill sergeant hat. Your first job is to enforce the "thou must laugh at every joke" rule. Drop and give me 20, Mr. Hookham! Practice that line over and over and over.)

Also on the Ben and Nicki front, they leave for San Antonio this week for a visit with family. Pray for safe travel and a good visit.

Jennifer May brought good news this morning. Jaret's first week of school went great. Pray that everything will go smoothly this week for Jaret as well. Praise God for a great week, Jennifer!

Ben Sullivan heads back to work in the East Texas oil patch on Tuesday. Pray for his safe travel and for his safety while on the job.

Christina G. would like us to pray for her boyfriend (is that what I call him, Christina?!), Trent. He has been very sick. Pray that he will get better soon.

How about a praise for the Erickson family! Would you believe they left for China one year ago this week to get little Miss Malia?! Praise God for a great year with this precious little girl!

--------

I think that takes care of our bidness for this week, folks. I'm off to supervise some coloring before I head out for a little run around the neighborhood. Have a great week, everyone! We look forward to seeing you again next Sunday.

If you want to read ahead, our lesson will be on "From Rebellion to Submission" and the verse for the week will be 1 Samuel 24.

See you then!

Wes
