Article of Interest

Friends:

I must say that I enjoyed talking with all of you this morning about the "parable of the talents". Thanks to all of you for your great contributions! I enjoy class so much when I talk less and all of us get to hear each of your thoughts. Days like this make me quite proud to be the humble chair of our hard-working committee!

Related to our conversation today, I thought this article from today's NY Times might interest you. It doesn't relate directly to our conversation, but it certainly has something to say about the futility of the "status race" that surrounds us every day. My dad sent the article to me earlier this afternoon. I hope you enjoy it.

Class Update--April 29, 2007

Dear Christian Living Friends:

Good afternoon, everyone! Miss Raegan and I just returned from a great time at the Baylor swimming pool. I hope the rest of you are having a great afternoon as well.

First off, us men have a special announcement to make about Mother’s Day (which falls on May 13th this year—a Sunday). Steve May has been kind enough to arrange something special for our moms (indeed for all of the ladies in our class! No motherhood required in order to participate in this special day, ladies!). We need a head count for how many people plan to be in class on May 13th. Please email me AND Steve May (smay@hot.rr.com) to let us know if you plan to be in class on the 13th. Gentlemen, if you would like to know more about our top-secret plans, please ask Steve May. He can give you the details. It’s a surprise, ladies, so don’t ask any questions!

Now, the next item on our list is to thank our donut people. Well, thanks to us Nulls! Next week, all I know is that one of our “Sullivan” families is in charge. Barry and Erica, is this you? Or, is this Ben and Teresa? Help!

I think that takes care of our announcements for now. Let’s go ahead and get to our prayers and praises:

I would like for us to continue to pray for Terrill and Leigh Saxon, and especially their son, Paul. Please pray for strength, healing, and courage. Click here for details:

http://www.saxonreport.blogspot.com/

Next, Vince has asked us to continue to pray for his friend and co-worker, Larry. Larry has made some bad decisions with regard to his finances recently. Pray that God will help Larry to get back on track.

Us Nulls would like for all of you to pray for Mr. Corbin. We’re praying for a full week of good health this week.

Jennifer Fadal has asked us to continue to pray for her aunt. She remains in the hospital on a ventilator. Please pray that God will intervene and help get Jennifer’s aunt back on track.

Us Nulls would like to praise God for a great award that my lovely wife received recently. She has been named a finalist for a “2007 Spotlight on Education” award that is sponsored each year by Time Warner Cable. The nomination is for a computer lesson that several of Dana’s students put together. Praise God for this great recognition for my wonderful wife! This is much deserved, if I must say so myself! Way to go, Mrs. Null!

Also on the Dana front, Dana has asked us to pray for one of her friends, Jamie Beavers.

We also need to pray for all of the students who will be participating in prom celebrations this time of year. Pray for wise decision-making and safe travels. Midway High School’s prom is next Sat. night.

Jennifer May brought a praise this morning that Dennis (Zach’s babysitter’s husband) is doing better. We still, however, need to continue to pray for his recovery.

Steven Owens stopped by our class this morning and said that Jennifer is not feeling well (that’s why they didn’t make it up to class). Please pray that Jennifer will feel better soon. We look forward to seeing you guys again soon, Steven!

Finally, let’s be sure to pray for all of the Baylor students who will be taking finals in the coming weeks. Pray, also, for their safe travel home after the spring semester has come to an end.

-------------------

I think that takes care of our prayers and praises, folks. Dana and I want to wish all of you a healthy, successful, and prayer-filled week. See you next Sunday!

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--April 22, 2007

Read on our blog!

http://christianlivingfumcwaco.blogspot.com/

Dear Friends:

Good afternoon all! Dana and I hope that all of you are doing well. First off, let’s thank Steve and Jennifer May for bringing our donuts this morning. We appreciate it, Mays! Next week, us Nulls are in charge. Dana will be making waffles and omelets. If you would like to request a specific type of omelet for next week (say, ham and cheese or sausage and cheese), you can email Dana at jnull@hot.rr.com. Be sure to let Dana know what you want!

Let’s go ahead and jump to our prayers and praises. We have lots of them today!

Of course, we need to continue to pray for everyone who has been impacted by the terrible events at Virginia Tech. Please pray for healing and strength for everyone.

Pray, also, for everyone who has been affected by the events at NASA as well.

Jennifer May has asked that we pray for Larry Weeder (sp.?). He is the person that we have been praying for during the last few weeks. He recently had another surgery. Pray for his recovery.

We also need to pray for Ben May’s teacher, Mrs. Brummet. Mrs. Brummet’s grandmother died recently. Pray for her comfort during her time of grieving.

Jennifer also has asked us to pray for Zach’s babysitter’s husband, Dennis. Dennis has been suffering from a hematoma. Please pray for his complete and speedy recovery.

Vince and Mary have asked us to continue to pray for their friends who have suffered from two miscarriages. The lady in this couple will be having surgery this week. Please pray that the surgery will go well and that the physicians will find a way to help things to go better next time.

Please pray for Kris Skinner. She had to have an emergency surgery this week on her colon. Pray that she will get back to full health soon.

The Nicholsons have asked us to pray for Brooke. She will be having some tests run in Dallas soon to help with her UTIs. Pray that the tests will go as smoothly as possible and that the Nicholsons will find a way to help Brooke feel better.

Also on the Nicholson front, we need to pray for Amy. She will be having surgery on her shoulder in the not too distant future. Please pray for the Nicholsons as they deliberate about when to have the surgery done. We are here for you, Brian and Amy!

Teresa brought a praise this morning that their youngest, Robbie (sp.?!), turned 1 recently. Praise God for a great first year! We also need to pray for Teresa and all of her fellow teachers as they go through some changes with their district. Pray that God will help the Sullivans to make good decisions about their future.

Jeff Hookham is in Minneapolis this weekend. Pray for his safe travel.

The Rogers brought a praise today that Carter will be attending Hillcrest PDS next year! Great news, Rogerses. Hillcrest is a great relationship between Baylor’s School of Education and Waco ISD. I think that you will appreciate Hillcrest PDS! Let’s all pray for Carter and our other little ones as they begin Kindergarten next year.

Franci also has asked us to pray for David, her boss’s brother. David was recently diagnosed with stage IV cancer. Pray for David and for everyone who is helping him through this difficult time.

Jennifer Fadal would like for us to pray for her Aunt Martha Woodard. She fell recently and broke her arm. She is currently in ICU. Please pray that Martha will be in as little pain as possible and that she will get back to 100% soon. We also need to pray for Jennifer’s Uncle Bobby. Bobby is not in good health either, and he needs our prayers as he helps Martha to get better.

Elizabeth Nemec would like for us to pray for her sister, Rachel. Rachel is currently 6 months pregnant, and she also is dealing with kidney stones. Please pray that Rachel will be in as little pain as possible. Pray, also, for the little baby that she is carrying.

Melody Libby asks that we pray for her mom as she travels home tomorrow. Melody also would like for us to pray for her daughter Elise. Pray that Elise will have a good week at school.

Last but certainly not least, Chris Schmid brought the great news this morning that his grandmother is doing better and is back home in Arizona. Praise God that everything is looking up for her!

---------

I think that covers our prayers and praises for this week. For next week, we will get back in action with our Devotional Classics book. If you have time, take a look at pages 213-219 (the selection from John Bunyan). I think you will enjoy it.

Have great week, everyone! Dana and I look forward to seeing you next Sunday morning.

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--April 15, 2007

Dear Class Friends:

Good afternoon, everyone! I hope this message finds all of you doing well. How about this spring weather! I like the weather this Sunday much better than last. First off, I want to thank everyone who was able to make it to our lunch at Fuddrucker’s today (FYI—Dickie’s had no electricity when we arrived!). I think we all had a great time! This is a good way for us to spend time together outside of class. Since we have so many new people, we need to find opportunities like this for us to get to know one another a bit better.

Let’s get right to our announcements:

Happy 5th birthday to us! That’s right, Christian Living turns five years old today. We began on April 14, 2001. Way to go, class! Praise God for a great 5 years!

Next, Steve and Jennifer May are signed up to bring our snacks next Sunday morning. Thanks for signing up, Mays!

Next Sunday, we will plan to finish the last part of “Facing the Giants”. Then, we will get back to Devotional Classics by Foster. In Devotional Classics, we will look at pp. 213-219, which is a selection from John Bunyan (no relation to Paul, but John is the famous author of Pilgrim’s Progress!). Take a look at this selection by next Sunday, if you have time. We will discuss it either next Sunday or the week after.

Now, let’s go ahead and get to our prayers and praises.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Elizabeth Nemec and their two little ones are in Minnesota this weekend. Pray for their safe travel.

Steve May has asked us to pray for Barbara, one of his co-workers. Barbara’s mother passed away this past week.

We need to pray for all of the students and school folks who will be dealing with the TAKS test this week. Pray that everything will go smoothly and with as little stress as possible.

Mary E. brought a praise this morning that Bronson, the little boy who was in the hospital, is doing much better now. He is now at home. Praise God for this great news! Please continue to pray that Bronson will get stronger each day.

Let’s continue to pray for the Raneys, especially Amy and the little one they are expecting (no need to pray for Bruce—ha!). Amy is doing just fine. Pray that things will continue to go well for her all the way up until Nov. 9th, the day when she is due.

Rumor has it that the LaSeurs are doing just fine. I believe they even made an out of town trip this weekend. Please continue to pray for the LaSeurs, and, especially, for young Mark.

Vince E. has asked us to pray for a couple that the Ericksons know. They have recently suffered a second miscarriage. They need our prayers during this difficult time. Please ask God to be with this couple as they grieve and look forward to better days soon.

Vince also has a praise regarding a trip that he and Ben Sullivan made recently. They had a good time last weekend on a camping trip. Praise God for a great weekend!

Chris S. has asked us to continue to pray for the Schroeders, who lost their daughter last week. Please pray for comfort and strength for everyone who is grieving this tragic loss.

Finally, Chris also has asked us to pray for his grandmother. She has been suffering from an infection that kept her in the hospital for the entire Easter weekend. Please pray that she will get better soon and will be able to return home.

------------

I think that’s all for now, everyone. Thanks again for the great time at lunch today! Dana and I look forward to seeing all of you next Sunday morning.

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Lunch This Sunday!

Dear Friends:

I want to remind all of you that we are planning to have lunch as a class this Sunday after class. We will be heading to Dickey’s BBQ. I stopped by today and made sure that, yes indeed, kids do eat free at lunch.

Dana and I hope that all of you can make it! We also will have a chance for our class to be recognized during church this Sunday morning.

See you Sunday!

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--April 8, 2007

Dear Friends:

Greetings from the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago!

Happy Easter everyone. I hope that all of you have enjoyed this holiest of days. First off, let’s thank Joann and Gabe Dominguez for bringing us our food this morning. We appreciate it, Joann and Gabe! Next week, we plan to go out to eat as a class, so let’s just skip our snacks for next Sunday morning. Jeff and Jennifer Fadal are signed up to bring our food. Take the week off, Fadals! We will add you guys to the bottom of the list. I will send out a separate message in a few minutes regarding our lunch for next week.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT CHURCH NEXT WEEK: Ron Barnett called me earlier this week and told me that he plans to introduce all of the Sunday School classes next Sunday morning, the 15th, during worship. At some point, all of the members of our class will have a chance to stand up and be counted (this is optional, so please do not feel obligated to stand). It would be nice if we have a big showing next week so that the congregation can see how much God has blessed our class with growth. Let’s make a good showing! A good showing next week is particularly appropriate anyway because our class turns 5 years old next Sunday. Dana and I hope to see lots of you in worship!

Now, let’s get to our prayers and praises. We have lots of them this week:

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Please pray for the Horne and Schroeder families. Both funerals were yesterday. Please ask God to be with these families during this terribly difficult time of mourning.

We also need to pray for everyone on our ministry team (Steve, Wayne, Su, and everyone else). This has been a difficult week for them. Ask God to bless them with the strength they need to minister to the Horne and Schroeder families. Steve, Wayne, Su, and everyone else, we are praying for you!

Stefany Bunting has asked us to pray for her father. He will be having leg surgery on April 16th. This surgery is quite extensive, so please pray that everything will go smoothly.

Mary Erickson would like for us to pray for two of her friends, Candy and Trace. They recently had a baby boy named Bronson. He is had some problems, however, and is currently in the hospital. Pray that Bronson will get stronger each day and will be able to leave the hospital soon.

Jennifer May has asked us to continue to pray for her Assistant Principal’s husband. He had his surgery last Friday. Please pray for a complete and speedy recovery for him.

I want to say a praise for Jenny, Matt, and Mark LaSeur. They made it to class this morning with little Mark! He didn’t make a sound the entire class. Way to go, LaSeurs! Let’s continue to pray for the LaSeurs as little Mark begins his second month of life. Jenny has also asked us to pray for Matt while he is out of town this week. Pray for safe travel and for Jenny while she is at home with little Mark.

The Tooley family has asked us to pray for a young man named Peyton. Peyton has been struggling with a vascular disease, which has required some major surgery. Pray for complete recovery for Peyton.

Joann Dominguez brought a praise this morning that things are looking up for her brother. Praise God for this great news, Joann! Joann also would like to say a praise for our church, which she says has blessed the Dominguez family in many ways. Glad to hear it, Joann! Finally, please pray that the Dominguez family will have better health in the weeks ahead.

The Fadals have asked us to pray for Peter and Tara, friends of theirs. Tara is currently pregnant with twins. She has had some complications, however, and is now bed-ridden for the rest of the pregnancy. Please pray for Tara’s health and for these two little babies. Pray that she will bring them to full term as healthy newborns.

Please pray for Melody Libby's puppy dog. He got out this morning and they are currently searching for him. Pray that he will come home soon!

Jeff Hookham’s parents will be traveling home to Iowa this week. Pray for their safe return.

Last (and I suspect least—HA!), I ask that you pray for my safe return from Chicago.

I think that’s all for now, folks. Don’t forget to check out our blog! Tell your friends about it!

http://christianlivingfumcwaco.blogspot.com/

Dana and I hope that all of you have a great week.

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Prayer Requests--April 5, 2007

Dear Friends:

We have two important prayer requests to share. Please see the message below from Chris Schmid regarding the family of Erica Schroeder. Please pray for the Schroeder family. Thank you, Chris, for passing this along.

We also need to pray for the family of Leslie Horne. Leslie passed away today. This is of course a terribly difficult time of mourning for the Horne family. Thank you for praying for them. I believe that both funerals will take place this Saturday.

I also have posted this message to our blog:

http://christianlivingfumcwaco.blogspot.com/

See you this weekend,

Wes and Dana

Class Lunch on April 15th

Friends:

I want to remind you that we are planning to have lunch as a class on Sunday, April 15th. We will sneak out of class a few minutes early that day to head to one of our local eating establishments. Us Nulls had dinner this evening at the new Dickie’s here in town, and I think it would be a great spot for us. Plus, kids eat free on Sundays! (Or at least kids eat free on Sunday evenings. Jennifer and Amy, do you know if the “kids eat free” thing is for Sundays at lunch as well?)

Please put Sunday, April 15 on your calendars! We will celebrate our 5th Anniversary as a class on that day as well.

Wes and Dana

Class Update--April 1, 2007

Dear Friends:

Dana and I hope that all of you have had a great weekend. I know we have. Thank God for the springtime weather that we had today!

First off, thanks to Salley T. and Chris S. for bringing our donuts this morning. We appreciate it, Chris and Salley! Next week, Gabe and Joann Dominguez are in charge. We appreciate you doing this for us, Gabe and Joann!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:

I forgot a couple of important announcements this morning. Amy Nicholson has agreed to be our “point person” for collecting recipes for the recipe book. Please send them to Amy as soon as you can! Thanks, Amy!

Second, I forgot to remind everyone that we will be headed to eat lunch as a class two weeks from today on April 15, 2007. I will send a separate message about this matter as well.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES:

Let’s get right to our prayers and praises. Brian VanZee has asked us to pray for Randy, one of his co-workers. Randy’s father is not doing well and needs our prayers as well as support from his family.

Jennifer May has asked us to continue to pray for the Assistant Principal at her school. Jennifer's AP’s husband is now at home, but it appears he may have a hole in his heart. Pray for comfort for Jennifer’s friend and for her husband as they decide what treatment is best for him.

Erica S. has asked us to pray for one of her friends and co-workers, Cindy. Cindy has been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and will be going in for surgery this week. Pray that the surgery will be successful.

Let’s continue to pray for Matt and Jenny L. as well as all of our families that have young babies at home. Pray that God will be with these babies and their parents during these sometimes difficult weeks of having little babies at home. We’re praying for you, Matt, Jenny, Khalil, Leslie, Cathy, Trey, David, Elizabeth, and everyone else! (God I hope that I’m not forgetting someone who has a tiny one at home!).

Gabe D. has asked us to pray for his cousin Robert’s family. Robert passed away recently from cancer. Please pray for comfort for everyone who has been affected by Robert’s passing.

Cathy S. would like for us to pray for one of her friends, Rebecca. Rebecca was recently diagnosed with melanoma. She will be having surgery this week. Pray that Rebecca and her family will get nothing but good news.

Vince E. would like for us to pray for Mary’s grandmother, Ella. Ella is 89 and has been suffering from a hernia recently. Please pray that Ella will follow her physician’s orders and get back to complete health soon.

Jeff Hookham’s parents are coming to visit this week from Iowa. Pray that they will travel safely and will enjoy their time here with the Waco Hookhams.

Teresa Sullivan would like for us to pray for the Dalyn (sp?) Palmer family. Dalyn was a sophomore at Teresa’s school, and he passed away tragically this week from an asthma attack. Please pray for comfort for all of the young people and everyone else who is mourning this loss.

Another student of Teresa’s, Terry Bons (sp.?) passed away this week as well from a car accident. Please pray also for everyone who is mourning Terry’s loss. Lots of people in Teresa’s school and school district need our prayers!

Teresa also would like for us to pray for Ben. He will be traveling home this week from working away for several days. Pray that Ben will have a safe trip home.

Last but absolutely not least, Trey Schneider would like for us to pray for his grandfather, Richard. Richard will have knee surgery this week. He is in his 90s and will need our prayers to help him recovery from this surgery.

-----------------------

I believe that concludes our prayers for this week, everyone. I would like to add a final prayer that all of us will do the praying and reflecting necessary this week to prepare for the significance of Easter weekend and Easter Sunday. Let’s be sure to take advantage of this time to thank our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for what he did for us. Praise God for Christ’s resurrection!

Have a great week, everyone. Dana and I look forward to seeing all of you next Sunday morning.

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--March 25, 2007

Dear Friends:

Good afternoon, everyone! Dana and I hope this message finds all of you doing well. First off, I want to say a big welcome to Ben and Teresa Sullivan. They were guests in our class this morning. Great to have you guys, Ben and Teresa! I hope that you will come back and see us again next Sunday.

Next, let’s say a big thank you to Melody Libby for bringing our snacks this morning. We appreciate it, Melody! Next week, Salley Taylor and Chris Schmid are in charge. Thanks for taking care of us, Salley and Chris. We’ll look forward to our April Fool’s Day snacks!

Praise God for Joann Dominguez! Rumor has it that she has volunteered to serve as the point person for our class in the preparations and decorations for VBS. THANK YOU, JOANN! We certainly appreciate it. When the time comes, we will organize the other people in our class to help with decorations. Praise God for your willingness to serve in this way!

Franci Rogers reminded me this morning that we need to arrange a Sunday when our class can go eat together for lunch. I will send a separate message about this idea as well. Thanks for reminding me, Franci! I think we will plan to go on Sunday, April 15th. More details in a minute.

Now let’s get to our prayers and praises:

Praise God for the Raneys and their baby on the way! The Raneys have learned that they will be having ONE baby. That, at least, is the most recent news. Please keep praying for Amy, Bruce, and their little one. Pray for continued good news and good health.

Please pray for Amy Nicholson as she travels home from Chicago today. Rumor has it that Brian has held up just fine with the girls. We hope you’ve enjoyed the trip, Amy!

Jennifer May has asked us to pray for Larry, a relative of Jennifer’s Assistant Principal at school. Larry was recently in a motorcycle accident. Please pray for his recovery. He is dealing with some rather serious injuries.

We also need to pray for Steve and Jennifer May as Steve is out of town this week in Las Vegas. Pray for Jennifer here at home and, especially, for Steve while he is in Las Vegas.

The Jacques brought a praise this morning that Russ is beginning a new job tomorrow with the Dwyer Group here in town. Please pray for Russ as he makes his transition to a new position.

We also need to pray for Kayla and Russ while Kayla is in Arizona this week for a wedding (not hers!). Pray for safe travel for Kayla and for Russ while he is at home with their little Jacque.

Vince E. has asked us to continue to pray for Cole and Iva, Vince’s friends who recently adopted two young boys. Please pray that things will work out for this family. Pray for God’s blessing on these two little boys who have been through so much.

Franci R. would like for us to pray for one of her coworkers, Kelly, and Kelly’s mom. She (Kelly’s mom) will be having brain surgery this week. Please pray for a successful surgery and the beginnings of a strong recovery.

The Rogers also have asked us to pray for Dan McGee, one of their neighbors. Dan has been dealing with health problems for quite some time. Please pray for strength, patience, and stronger health for Dan.

Franci and Robbie also have asked us to pray for John and Gerrie Lilley, also their neighbors. John (aka President Lilley) is currently on a trip to India. We especially need to pray for Gerrie. She is going through a difficult time now because of a break-in that took place at their home early this morning. My understanding is that Gerrie is fine and the intruders fled when she confronted them, but, as you might suspect, Gerrie is quite startled by this event. Please pray for comfort for Gerrie and John during this difficult time. Pray, also, that these intruders will be caught.

Melody Libby has asked us to pray for health for the Libby home. Melody’s little girls have been dealing with lots of sicknesses lately. We’ll pray for better health, Melody!

Melody also has asked us to pray for her as she transitions to a new job. She will now be working with young girls at the Waco Center for Youth. Please pray for Melody as she makes this transition. Ask that God will be with Melody as she does this very important ministry work.

------------

I think that’s all for now, everyone. Dana and I hope that all of you have a great week. We enjoyed seeing everyone this morning.

See you next Sunday!

God bless,

Wes and Dana
