Next Class Book

Friends:

Well, it is just about time to choose our next book. I have narrowed it down to two. I passed these around last Sunday. Several people mentioned that they thought the Warren book would be particularly good. At this point, I’m leaning toward that one. If you have a preference on which of these two we should go with (or if you have other suggestions), please let me know!

Rick Warren, God’s Answers to Life’s Difficult Questions

Charlie Stafford at the Beach!

Friends:

A few of you out there may remember Jeff Stafford. He was a member of our class for a few years back in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He moved to Austin and got married soon after that. Well, Jeff now has a son named Charlie! Is he a cutie or what?

Way to go, Jeff! (I'd say congratulations to your wife as well, but I don't know her name!!

Congratulations!

Class Update--June 24, 2007

Dear Class Friends:

Good evening, everyone! Get ready. According to the Channel 25 weather forecast, more rain is on the way early this week! Take a your umbrella!

First off this week, I would like to say how pleased we were to welcome Melanie Stafford to our class this morning. Great to have you, Melanie! For those of you who may remember Jeff Stafford, Melanie is Jeff’s sister. We were quite pleased to get an update on Jeff this morning. Rumor has it that he is living in Round Rock with his wife and son. Now, back to Melanie. We look forward to having you with us again next Sunday. Come back and see us!

Next, I want to say a big thank you to Jeff and Jennifer Fadal for bringing us the delicious banana bread this morning. Way to go, Fadals! We certainly do appreciate it. Our friends the Buhners were signed up to bring us something to eat next Sunday morning, but, alas, we don’t have class! Vince and Mary Erickson are signed up for July 8th. Thanks for signing up, Ericksons! I also want to say thank you to the rest of you who signed up this morning as well. See our blog for the complete list. We’re set through September 30th!

I want to say a special thank you to Bernie Hookham and Kayla Jacque for volunteering to teach the kids this morning. GOD BLESS YOU GUYS, BERNIE AND KAYLA! We very much appreciate this very important service to our kids and church.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT AUGUST 26TH
Come one, come all! Shawn and Shelley Buhner have kindly volunteered to open their home to our class on the afternoon of August 26th. We plan to make this a “Welcome Back” social event to welcome everyone back to church and class after a busy summer of travel and related matters. Thank you, Shawn and Shelley, for suggesting this idea! August 26th is a tentative date at this point, so please let me know if there is something that could interfere with this date. The time will be something like 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Rumor has it that the Buhners have a pool, so we may need to discuss swimming attire at some point (ha!). At any rate, PLEASE PUT AUGUST 26TH FROM (ROUGHLY) 4:00 TO 7:00 P.M. ON YOUR CALENDARS. I think this will be an important time for us to get together and enjoy one another’s company.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES
Now, let’s get to our prayers and praises.

I received an email update from Cathy Schneider yesterday. It looks as though Emmie is going to be okay. Cathy says that Emmie’s gastrointestinal matters may be developmental and that she should outgrow the problem. In other words, it doesn’t look like Emmie will need surgery. Please continue to pray that things will get better for Emmie. The Schneiders also have been dealing with sicknesses in their home. Please pray for health for the Schneider family.

I would like to ask that we all continue to pray for the Saxon family and, especially, for their son Paul. Pray for God’s strength for all of them. Here is a link to their blog:

http://www.saxonreport.blogspot.com/

We need to pray for Bruce and Amy Raney. They will soon be moving to San Antonio. That’s right. Bruce has taken a position in San Antonio. Please pray for their as-yet-to-be-born baby and for the two of them as they make the move. We’re praying for you guys, Amy and Bruce! (P.S.--They’re having a girl!)

I would like to say a praise for the baptism of Mark LaSeur last Sunday. Praise God for this great decision! It sounds as though young Mark is doing just fine. Way to go, LaSeurs!

We should pray for the VanZees as they prepare for another adoption. Pray that God will be with them and everyone involved as they move closer to having their second little one!

We also need to pray for Vince and Mary Erickson in this process as well. They have been working through the adoption process for about 9 months. Since they are adopting from China, they have several months to go as well. Ask that God will touch the Ericksons as they move forward in this very important process.

Jennifer Fadal has asked us to pray for her sister, Susan. She will be moving to Austin this week.

Shelley Buhner would like for us to pray for Landry Reed, the young boy who will be going in for allergy testing this week. Pray that the testing will go well and that the physicians will find out what antibiotics he can and cannot take.

Vince E. would like for us to continue to pray for their friends, Cole and Iva. They are the couple who have been raising two young boys. They would like to adopt the two boys officially, but have been running into some problems. Please ask for God’s wisdom for everyone who is trying to figure out what is best for these young boys.

Let’s pray for the May family. They have decided to sell their home and look for another location in this area. Please pray that everything will go smoothly for them.

The LaSeur family is taking a trip! That’s right, young Mark will make his first trip to Illinois this week. Please pray for safe travel for the LaSeurs. Enjoy your trip, folks!

Also on the driving front, we need to pray for Franci Rogers’ mother. She is coming to visit the Rogers’ home this week. Pray that she will travel safely and her enjoy her time with young Carter while she is in town.

The Coltrains are headed out of town! Rumor has it that they are taking a cruise (Khalil’s trying to call it work, but I don’t buy it.) Please pray that everything will go well for the Coltrains, and for Emma and Camden while they are out of town!

We need to continue to pray for Heather McNair. She is the young lady who has triplets at home and, on top of that, will be going in for heart by-pass surgery this week. Please pray that the surgery will be successful and that Heather will get back to 100% very soon.

Teresa Sullivan has asked us to pray for her father. He is planning to have gastric by-pass surgery in the near future. We thank God for this important decision, and please ask God to be with Robert and everyone who is helping him to prepare for this important surgery.

Shawn Buhner would like for us to pray for his Uncle John. He has several clogged arteries and is having some difficulty getting around these days. His situation is too bad for surgery at this point. Please pray that God will help John to get to feeling better very soon.

Last but certainly not least, Vince Erickson reported this morning that he successfully stared down a bear on his and Mary’s recent trip to the Smoky Mountains. Glad you guys had a great trip, Vince and Mary!

-------------------

I believe that covers our prayers and praises for this week. I plan to send a separate announcement regarding the possible choices for our next book. Dana and I hope that all of you have a great week! Please remember, we do not have any Sunday morning classes next week. Only one service next Sunday! We look forward to seeing all of you at that service. If not then, we’ll see you on July 8th!

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Next Stop: The White House

Dear Friends:

Well, well, well. A trusty friend of mine just forwarded the attached photograph to me. Take a look! I thought all of you might enjoy seeing our new public servant in his first offical act as Hewitt City Councilman. I wish I could have written the caption for this little photo. “I, Brian Nicholson, do solemnly swear . . . . . .” You fill in the blanks!

Seriously, way to go, Brian. Weith the exception of that belt buckle that seems to be sticking out a bit too far, you look great! Congratulations!

Wes

P.S.--By the way, there’s this pothole just down the street from my house . . . . . . .

Class Update--June 17, 2007

Dear Class Friends:

Good evening, everyone! Well, our family has returned from a successful trip to visit family in New Mexico. We had a long drive today, but we are quite pleased to be home. I want to thank Barry Sullivan once again for teaching our class this morning. We appreciate it, Barry! I also want to thank the Dominguez family for bringing our snacks. Rumor has it that one of the Dominguez kids is sick. May the little Dominguez get well soon!

That’s all for now, folks. Dana and I look forward to seeing all of you again next Sunday morning. Have a great week!

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--June 10, 2007

Dear Class Friends:

Good evening, all! Dana and I hope that you’ve had a good weekend. We had a great “Missions Sunday” at church and class this morning. But, first off, let’s thank Melody Libby for bringing our snacks. We appreciate it, Melody! Next week, Gabe and Joann Dominguez are in charge. Thanks for taking care of us, Gabe and Joann!

Next, we should think Marla Bettinger for serving as a guest speaker in our class this morning. Great job, Marla! I know that all of us enjoyed hearing about the work that Marla is doing for Christ in Taiwan. If any of you would like to contact Marla, you may do so at dbettinger@omsinternational.org.

Now, let’s go ahead and move into our prayers and praises:

Praise God for the great work that the Peru group has done! Please ask God to be with everyone who went on the trip as they get some rest here at home. Let’s also say a special praise for Brian and Amy. We look forward to hearing about your trip in the weeks ahead!

Barry Sullivan brought a great praise this morning. His mom is doing just fine! It turns out that, unbelievably, she was diagnosed incorrectly. She does not have anything that is potentially breast cancer. Praise God for this great news!

We still, however, need to pray for Barry’s cousin, who is waiting to hear on some cancer tests as well.

We need to pray for Murray and Kim Evans. Murray’s mother, after many difficult weeks, finally passed away this morning. Please ask God to be with Murray, Kim, and their entire family during this time of grieving. Ask God to be with them as they make funeral plans and do everything else that has to be done at this time.

Brooke Tooley has asked us to pray for McKenna Shoemaker (?). She is a little girl who has been dealing with a 108 degree (that’s right) fever recently. Pray that God will help this little girl put this behind her very soon.

Teresa Sullivan brought a praise and a prayer this morning. She finally finished the school Yearbook at her school! Well done, Teresa. I know how much work goes into these things. Teresa also is preparing to take an ESL test next weekend. Ask God to be with Teresa as she prepares to take the test.

Last but not least, Bernie Hookham would like for us to pray for healing for a little girl named Madison.

-------------------

I think that includes everything for this week, everyone. Dana and I will leave on Tuesday morning for a trip to New Mexico. Barry Sullivan has kindly agreed to teach our class next week. Thank you, Barry! We do appreciate you doing this for us. Please pray for our family as we travel. We will be back in church and class on Sunday, June 24th.

Have a great week, everyone!

God bless,

Wes and Dana

Class Update--June 3, 2007

Dear Friends:

Good evening, everyone! I hope that all of you have enjoyed your weekend. I, for one, am exhausted from trying to keep up with the two Null children. After fishing, swimming, bike riding, wrestling, and chasing Corbin and Raegan around the house all weekend, I’m about ready to surrender!

I want to say again how pleased we were to welcome several guests to our class this morning. Ryan and Corrie Searight visited for the first time today. Great to have you guys, Ryan and Corrie! (and, get this, they are expecting a baby . . . would you believe it?! We have some expertise in this area!). We also were delighted to welcome Brad and Jen Burney as guests this morning as well. We enjoyed having you, Brad and Jen! (two kids already!) On behalf of our class, we certainly hope that all four of you will come see us again next Sunday. Believe it or not, we didn’t have much time for jokes this morning, so you folks will certainly need to come back to get a taste of what true humor is all about! (think sarcasm here; everyone else is . . . .).

Next, let’s say a big thank you to Kris and Brooke Tooley for bringing our donuts (and kolaches!) to class this morning. Way to go, Tooleys! We do appreciate it. Next week, Melody Libby is in charge. Hook us up, Melody! Thanks for signing up! (got any special Texas Tech pastries?!)

-------------------

Lots of people need our prayers this week, so let’s go ahead and get started:

Praise God for the Nash Buhner baptism! Way to go, Buhners. Nash did a great job. Heck, even Steve R. looked quite good as the baptizer today (by the way, should we call him Steve the Baptist?!). Bunhers, you guys looked terrific up there! We praise God for your decision!

We need to pray for the Peru group! Let’s pray, especially, for our friends Brian and Amy.

Salley Taylor is out of town visiting family in Missouri. Pray for safe travel for Salley and the girls.

Elizabeth Nemec will be traveling to Minnesota soon as well. Pray for her safe travel.

We also need to continue to pray for Elizabeth’s brother and sister-in-law, who are still mourning the loss of their unborn child Pray for comfort and healing.

I believe that Vince Erickson is still out of town this weekend. Pray for his safe travel. We also need to pray for Mary. Rumor has it that she is out of town and traveling as well.

Ben Sullivan has asked us to pray for one of his co-workers, Jordan Caldwell. Jordan’s brother was recently injured in an oilfield accident. Pray for his complete and quick recovery.

Franci Rogers brought a praise this morning that her co-worker, Kelly, has given birth, and both mom and baby are doing well. Praise God for this great news! Please pray for continued good news and strong health.

Robbie and Franci also asked that we pray for Mary, who attends the 9:30 service. She will be going in for surgery this week. Pray for successfully surgery and complete healing for Mary.

The Rogers also asked us to pray for one of their friends, Heather. Heather will be having surgery soon. Pray that her surgery will be successful so that she can get back to her family in good health (triplets!).

Brooke Tooley brought us a praise this morning that she will be teaching Kindergarten next year at the Rapoport Academy. Praise God for this great news, Brooke! We are certainly delighted for you and the little ones you will bless next year. Please ask God to be with Brooke as she prepares for this important position next year.

The Mays have asked that we pray for Zach’s baby-sitter. She has been dealing with health problems recently. Pray for her quick and complete recovery.

We need to pray for Emmie Schneider and the Schneider family. Cathy and Trey will be taking Emmie to see a specialist this week. Emmie has been having some gastrointestinal problems for quite some time. Please ask God to be with Cathy, Trey, and the various physicians as they make decisions about what is best for Emmie. We’re praying for you, Cathy, Trey, and Emmie!

Brian VanZee has asked us to pray for the family of Ty Patterson. Ty is the game warden who drowned tragically this week trying to locate a body. He was only 28. Please ask God to be with his family during this terribly difficult time of grieving. Ty and Brian worked together as part of Texas Fish & Wildlife.

We need to pray for Barry Sullivan’s mom. She will be going in this week to have a surgeon look at a lump in her breast that could be cancerous. Please pray for Barry and his family during this extremely stressful time. Pray, also, for nothing but good news for Barbara (Barry’s mom).

We also need to pray for Carey, Barry’s cousin. She is dealing with the possibility of cancer as well. Pray that she will receive only positive news as well.

Melody Libby has asked us to pray for her friend, Christy LeMay (who visited our class a few weeks ago). Christy has been having lots of problems with stomach sicknesses lately. She is currently waiting the results of a stomach biopsy. Please pray that Christy will get things under control and that she will feel completely healthy again very soon.

Ben and Teresa Sullivan would like for us to pray for their little one, Robbie (he’s 13 1/2 months). Robbie (sp.?!) has not been sleeping well, and, in general, has been fussy a lot lately. He is getting some molars. Please pray that Robbie will have better nights (and days!) again very soon.

How about a praise on the Dominguez front! For those of you who weren’t in class this morning, Joann Dominguez has taken a position with our church as Nursery Coordinator! Way to go, Joann! We are delighted for you. Please let us know what we can do to support you as you begin this new job!

Also on the Dominguez front, Gabe would like for us to pray for them as they deal with some custody issues surrounding their oldest daughter. Pray that God will be with the Dominguez family during this stressful process.

Russ Jacque would like for us to pray for his brother, Steve. Steve has been dealing with some difficulties surrounding work lately. Please pray that things will get better for Steve very soon.

We also need to continue to pray for Murray and Kim Evans. Please pray for strength for them.

Shelley Buhner has asked that we pray for the Schwartze (sp.?) family. Mrs. Schwartze, who was 55, died tragically this past week. Please pray for courage, strength, and healing for everyone who is grieving her loss.

Last but certainly not least, Brad and Jen Burney have asked that we pray for their friend, Innocent (sp.?). He has been dealing with some troubles at home recently.

----------------------

I think that takes care of our prayers and praises for this Sunday evening, everyone. As you can see, lots of people are dealing with some difficult days. For those of us who have been blessed with so much (like blessed with beautiful children who can make us exhausted at the end of a long weekend!), let’s be sure and thank God for everything that He has given to us. Praise be to God!

Dana and I hope that all of you have a great week. And we look forward to seeing all of you again next Sunday morning!

God bless,

Wes and Dana
