Thank you all for your prayers during this difficult time for our friends in Peru. Here is the latest...Pastor and his wife were able to fly back on Saturday night and arrived in Chincha Sunday around noon. It truly was an angel protected journey back. The airlines let them take 6 extra suitcases back full of relief supplies b/c there were none in Chincha. (tents, tarps, meds, etc.) Then they were able to travel the road from Lima to Chincha with their oldest son and a pastor from Lima in a van. This is a miracle b/c bandits have been robbing anyone not in a public transportation vehicle on this road. We, of course, believe God's angels were protecting them on this journey. When they arrived, they said it just looked like a war zone. There is virtually nothing left. There was no water- I think there is a little bit now and hardly any food. Everyone is pretty much sleeping in the streets due to all the aftershocks they keep having. However, people are flooding to the church and the school of our friends. These two places are becoming refuges for the community. Obviously, the situation is very difficult, dangerous and discouraging. The pastor and his family are leading this town to hope and healing. The people there are emotionally scarred and are walking in fear right now. Please continue to pray for Gerrardo, Persia and their family as they help their community start the healing and rebuilding process. We believe Christ is going to draw Peruvians to Himself through this tragedy. Right now, our church is raising money to rebuild the church. It will take around $40,000. We believe the church is a great place to start since it will be a central part to the rebuilding process. Our first team of relief workers will be leaving on Sept. 7th for a week. This is going to be a very difficult trip. Little food, little water, little sleep -in the street- etc. Please pray for this team and as God speaks to those who should go. You can go to www.fumcwaco.org
if you would like information about donating to this particular ministry in Rebuilding the Church. Thank you again for your prayers. I truly believe God has and will continue to answer those prayers.
Love to all,
Amy
