Dear Friends:
If you have time, take a look at pp. 258-263 in Devotional Classics for this Sunday. This is a selection from John Wesley. It has to deal with the idea of “perfection,” which is central in Wesley’s thought. Also, I ran across a book this week that I think raises similar issues related to this ideal of “perfection,” but in a slightly different way. The book is entitled The Case Against Perfection: Ethics in the Age of Genetic Engineering. The author is Michael Sandel. I would like to connect the Wesley reading to this book by Sandel. I think the two will make for some interesting discussion. Here is a somewhat favorable review of the Sandel book. If you have time, read the review as well. I will bring copies to class.

See you Sunday!
