Da Scoop on the First Sunday of 2010

Friends:

Good evening, all! Hope you've enjoyed your weekend. Let the world start turning hard and heavy again tomorrow morning ..........

Thanks, Mays! They brought our snacks this morning. Next week, Brian and Jill VanZee are in charge. Thanks everyone! This reminds me of a story. Once upon a time, the VanZees brought bagels from Panera Bread . . . . . . . . that's not a hint, folks. Just sayin' they were good way back when!!!! : )

PRAYERS AND PRAISES

Let's jump to our prayers and praises. Miss Reese Nicholson will have a big day tomorrow. She is receiving two types of chemo drugs and undergoing some additional tests to find out how the chemo is working. Pray for strength, good news, and safe travel for the Nicholsons tomorrow. We're praying, Amy!

How about this. Liz Workman is having a baby! Yep, that's right. She is about 9 weeks along. This news should get us well into August 2010 as far as class pregnancy is concerned. Woohoo! Congratulations Matt and Liz! We are very happy for you guys. I thin this will be baby #37 for our class. Must be in the donuts. Let's pray for continued growth and strength for the little Workman on the way.

Christina G. has a few prayers today. She would like for us to pray for her Aunt and Uncle who are driving. She also asked us to pray for her other Uncle, Larry, who is having surgery this week. Pray that everything will go well. Also on the Christina front, she goes in for a check-up this week following her surgery from a few weeks ago. Pray that she will only receive good news.

Happy 16th Anniversary to Jennifer and Steve May! That's right. They were married 16 years ago on January 1st. Let's pray for continued great years for this wonderful family.

Jennifer Fadal wants us to keep praying for her nephew Easton. He changed his medication last week, and everyone is waiting to see how things go. Pray for continued good health for Easton.

Vince E. has officially made the transition to the Rio Grande Valley. Pray that his first week on the air will go well. We're praying for you, Vince! I will be watching your broadcasts online, by the way. : )

We also need to pray for Mary and Malia while they settle in back here in Waco. Mary, please call if you need anything. Please don't be afraid to ask for help.

Happy birthday Matt Ramsdell! Yep, that's right. Matt turns the big 30 today. Let's pray that Matt will enjoy the rest of his special day.

Also on the Ramsdells, we need to keep up our prayers for little Levi. You're almost there, Beth! Pray for a strong final few weeks of pregnancy for Beth.

Kirsten E. has asked that we keep praying for her nephew Jack. He is battling Leukemia (see previous posts). Pray for continued successful treatments and good news as far as Jack's blood counts are concerned. Good counts allow for him to get out of his house and see other people more often.

Last but not least, let's pray for everyone as we begin school again. Pray for safe travel for all of the Baylor students as they make their way back to Waco.

Reading for Next Sunday

That covers our prayers and praises for this Sunday. I hope everyone has had a chance to get your copy of Better Together. I thought we made a good start with the book this morning. Let's do this. If you have the book, please plan to read through Day 10 (page 51) by next Sunday. We will plan to discuss Days 1-10 in class.

I think that's all for today. Have a great week, everyone!

See you next Sunday morning,

Wes

Happy 2010!, Day One of Better Together

Dear Friends:

Happy 2010! I hope the year is off to a great start for everyone. I am writing to let you know that we will begin the "Better Together" book tomorrow. We will start, obviously, with Day One. If you have picked up your copy of the book, try to find some time to read pages 12-14 by tomorrow morning. We will build our lesson off of that.

See you tomorrow!

Wes

Christmas Greetings, News, and Prayers . . .

Friends:

Good evening, all. The Baylor Bears won this afternoon. The Cowboys won last night. Christmas week has arrived. No school for a while. Days off later in the week for non-school employed people. Things are lookin' pretty good this week, I think!

I hope all of you are having a good Sunday. We have lots going on, as usual, so let's get to it.

FISH DISH
Would anyone like to volunteer to teach the Fish Dish Kids Sunday School class for the month of January? Your commitment would only be two Sundays during the month. I believe the two Sundays would be January 17th and 24th, but I may be off by one Sunday. The person to talk with would be Nancy Walker. If you are interested in doing this, please let me know with an email. We already have February, March, and April 2010 covered. Thanks to everyone who has volunteered already! For those of you who don't know, our class has "adopted" the Fish Dish class, which means different members of our class take turns teaching the kids.

PRAYERS AND PRAISES
We have lots of prayers this week. For starters, let's pray for everyone who is traveling. Here are the travelers I know about. The VanZees are headed to Iowa, the Hookhams are headed to Iowa, the Hudsons are going somewhere in Texas, the Mays are going somewhere in Texas, the Escobar-Jensens are headed to College Station, and us Nulls are headed to New Mexico. Pray for safe travel and an enjoyable time visiting with family for everyone.

Let's keep praying for the two expectant Mommies we know about. Beth Ramsdell and Erica Sullivan. Pray for comfortable days and healthy growth for the babies.

We need to keep praying for little Reese as she goes back and forth to Temple for chemo treatments. Pray for strength for Reese and safe driving for Amy and Brian.

We have several prayers and praises from/for Vince and Mary this week. They will celebrate six years together on Wednesday! Congratulations, Vince and Mary. I hope you guys enjoy your special day. We also need to pray for them as Vince readies the camper to make his move to South Texas. Pray that all of the preparations will go well and the transition will be smooth. Pray, also, for Mary and Malia while Vince is out of town.

Also from Vince and Mary, Vince's parents will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary this week. Yep, that's right. 62 years. How about that! Congratulations to Vince's parents. Let's pray for a special day for them.

Mary also would like for us to pray for her friend, Kelly. Kelly's son, Zachary, recently had a kidney transplant. The surgery went well, but we need to pray that the kidney will begin to function exactly as it should.

Last but not least, Vince would like for us to keep praying for the Menekers. The boys they have been raising for the past four years will be transitioning back to their biological parents soon. Pray that God will be with these boys during this difficult time of change. Pray for peace and understanding for the Menekers.

Jennifer May will take the GRE tomorrow. Pray that everything will go well for her. You will do great, Jennifer! It will be over soon enough! Just think, you can celebrate Christmas after having it done.

Dana would like for us to pray for Zach, a student at Midway High. Zach's brother is the little boy from South Bosque Elementary who who died from complications of swine flu last week. Please pray for comfort for Zach and his entire family during this terribly difficult and tragic time.

We need to keep praying for Shannon Smith and the entire Smith family. Pray for peace and healing as the days pass along.

Kirsten E. has asked that we pray for her nephew, Jack. He is battling Leukemia. He has to remain in isolation for two more years while he goes through his protocol of taking chemo and trying to remain germ free. Pray for understanding for Jack and for successful chemotherapy treatments.

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her Aunt and Uncle as they travel this week.

I think that covers our news, prayers, and praises for this week.

CLASS NEXT WEEK

As I mentioned, us Nulls will be in New Mexico next week. We will be back on Saturday, December 31st. In lieu of finding someone else to teach the class, I have asked Kathy Brooks if it is okay if any remaining members of our class meet with them next Sunday in Room 205 (just next door). I have yet to hear back from Kathy (just emailed a few minutes ago!), but I'm sure this plan will be okay. I don't think, however, that many people from our group will be left in town . . . .

May all of you have a blessed Christmas and a safe New Year's Eve. I look forward to seeing many of you on Christmas Eve. For those of you who are in town, I hope you can be there. I think I'm speaking the truth when I say that we have the most beautiful Christmas Eve service in the country.

May God bless all of you during this special time of year!

Prayers and News on a Heat Wave Sunday . . . .

Friends:

Good evening, all! How about this 70 degree weather?! Fine by me, except for the fact that it reminds me I need to rake the leaves!

I hope everyone has enjoyed the weekend. We only have one more full weekend before Christmas! My apologies if I just added to anyone's stress level . . . .

Let's start off by welcoming Danny Ramsey to our class. He visited this morning. His wife Pam was home sick. We enjoyed having you, Danny! I hope you will come back and visit us again soon, next time with Pam.

Next, let's thank Ben and Teresa Sullivan for bringing our donuts today. We appreciate it, guys! Next week, us Nulls will take care of the snacks.

NEWS AND PRAYERS

As usual, we have lots of news and prayers. First off, Vince E. brought great news this morning that he has accepted a sports director position at the KRGV station down in the Rio Grande Valley. Congratulations, Vince! We are very happy for you guys. KRGV is an ABC affiliated station that has won many awards. Vince will be replacing someone who has been sports director there for 35 years. They are very lucky to have you, Vince! Let's pray for a smooth transition for them. Mary plans to stay here in town for a while, so we will continue to see her each week as well as Vince about once per month. We will be praying for you guys during the transition, Vince and Mary!

On that note, Vince would like us to keep praying for everyone out there who is still searching for employment. He knows how difficult the time of searching and stress can be.

Also from Vince, he would like for us to pray for one of his friends, Michelle. Michelle's mother, not a smoker, is fighting lung cancer. Pray for good medicine and comfort for Michelle's mom.

We have two expectant Mommies to keep in our prayers. Beth Ramsdell had her shower this afternoon. As far as I know, everything went quite well. Let's keep praying for good health for Beth and little Levi-to-be.

We also need to pray for Barry and Erica Sullivan. Many of you remember them as part of our class before they moved to Gainesville. Erica is about three months along with her pregnancy. We need to pray for her since she has had some difficulties. Pray for easy days and strength for Erica. She does have some back problems, so let's pray for as little pain as possible. Since we still consider Barry and Erica as part of our class, this news extends our pregnancy period well into next summer! Thanks for coming through for us, Barry and Erica. This news puts us at almost 8 years of straight pregnancy for at least one person in our class. Quite an accomplishment, I think! We have a slight reprieve, but somebody else needs to come through by June . . .

We also, of course, need to keep praying for little Reese Nicholson. She goes back in for another round of chemo treatments in the morning. Pray for safety for Amy on the drive. Pray also for the treatments to be as smooth as possible. One week at a time, Brian and Amy!

Christina G. would like for us to pray for her supervisor at work, Tom Charlton. He goes in for a cancer check-up tomorrow. Pray for a safe trip and for good news as far as Tom's health is concerned.

Ben Sullivan informed us today that it looks as though he will be accepting a promotion this week. He has an opportunity to move off the drilling rigs and begin to work as an electrician. Let's pray for Ben as he makes this important shift in his life, one that should make his work a bit more safe.

Last but not least, Ben May had a great weekend. He made all-region band with his trombone skills! It sounds as though high-quality trombone playing runs in the May family. Congratulations, Ben! Let's pray that Ben will continue to develop all of his talents, which look to be quite broad (basketball, football, trombone, school, etc. . . . .must take after his Mother).

----------

I think that covers matters for this Sunday, everyone. Let's all pray that we will find a way to slow down and appreciate the meaning of this sacred season.

Have a great week, folks. See you next Sunday morning!

Remember Barry and Erica . . . . .

Friends:

Guess what?! Just got an update from Barry and Erica Sullivan. Remember them?! Barry's the guy we lost to Gainesville as city manager when we couldn't keep him in Hewitt.

Well, we have good news and a prayer request for them. Erica is about 14 weeks pregnant. How about that?! Great news of course. She has, however, been having some difficulties. Barry has asked that we keep them, and especially Erica and the baby of course, in our prayers.

Thanks for letting us know, Barry. We'll be praying for you guys. We'll want to see that baby!

December News and Prayers . . . .

Friends:

Well, there is lots to share this week! First off, thanks to the Hookhams for bringing our donuts today. Next week, Ben and Teresa are signed up. Thanks, Hookhams and Sullivans!

Let's go ahead and get to our prayers and praises.

Jill VanZee brought great news about her friend Dr. Mundy. Her little girl Rylie is now home from the hospital and doing well. Let's pray for her continued recovery.

Vince E. has an update on the Menekers. After many months of praying, it turns out that their two little boys will be returning to their biological parents. This is a very difficult situation and devastating news for Vince's friends Cole and Iva. Please pray for the boys as they transition to a different home. Pray for Cole and Iva as they deal with lots of pain. Pray, also, for the biological parents who will be looking after the boys again soon.

Let's keep praying for Shannon Smith and her family as they deal with the loss of Shannon's brother. We are praying for you, Shannon.

Beth Ramsdell has just a couple of months left before little Levi arrives. Please pray for Beth and for Levi as the big day gets closer. Matt seems to be doing fine, too. : )

I believe Reese Nicholson has had a good week. She began a new medication on Monday along with the chemotherapy treatment. I think it helped her to have a better week. Let's keep praying that Reese will have easier weeks of treatments. Pray for safe travel for Amy and Reese as they drive back and forth.

Jennifer Fadal would like for us to keep praying for little Easton. The good news is that he is sleeping better now that he has begun to take Prilosec. Pray for continued good days for Easton.

Bernie Hookham has asked that we keep praying for Linda Bohannon, her assistant at work. Linda is undergoing radiation treatments for breast cancer. She is doing okay, but continues to need our prayers.

Christina G. has a friend she would like for us to pray for. He's having a difficult time right now and needs some support. Pray that Christina will be able to provide it to him. Christina also would like for us to pray for her as she finishes out the semester. Her Mom also has a birthday party on Wednesday. Pray for a good day for her.

Steve May brought a praise today that everything is in good shape with his job. Pray for the others who weren't so fortunate and for Steve as he continues his work. Pray for no more rounds of layoffs!

We also need to pray for Steve as he begins work to coach the China Spring High School Challenge team. These are the kids who compete in the academic competition on Saturday mornings on TV. Pray that Steve will bless these kids!

Last but not least on the May front, Benjamin's basketball team had a great tournament this weekend. They won the whole thing! Congratulations to them.

Finally, let's pray for a great end of the semester for all of the area schools and universities. Pray for safe travel for the students who will be headed home soon.

------

I think that covers matters for this Sunday. May we all slow down long enough to enjoy this sacred and blessed time of year.

See you next Sunday!

Wes
